Sri Lanka options for Pakistan

With the whole mess in that beautiful but God forsaken island starting up again, what are Pakistans options. Quite simply the attack on the HC shows that at least one of the parties thinks we are involved. Should we send troops? We may be more successful than the Indians were since unlike them we don't have 63 million Tamils at home to keep happy, and we believe in Sri lanka's integrity. On the other hand involving troops would probably be unpopular at home.

I am of the opinion that we should send the Lankans whatever they need, buy now, pay later, provide whatever training they desire etc. But that should be the end of it.

Srilanka would simple say no, incase Pakistan decides to send its troops.

Also, what about Pakistan's right for self-determination of the people? Tamils in Lanka do not come under that idelogy??

Sri Lanka is being assisted by Pakistan.

Air Vice-Marshal Shehzad Aslam Chaudhry has been accepted by the Sri Lanka as the new Pakistani High Commissioner replacing Colonel Bashir Wali wef 18 Aug 06.

Colonel Bashir was the former Director of the Pakistan Intelligence Bureau and a former senior officer of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who has completed his two-year tenure in Colombo. Col. Bashir Wali escaped an assassination attempt, allegedly by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), on August 14,2006.

Air Vice-Marshal Shehzad Aslam Chaudhry recently retired as the Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Operations) of the PAF. He is an expert on the use of air power in counter-insurgency operations and is expected to guide the Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) in its air-mounted operations against the LTTE.

As the Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Operations), he handled the air-mounted operations against the Balochis in Balochistan. He also handled negotiations with US officials for the acquisition of F-16 aircraft for the PAF and co-ordinated with the Chinese the implementation of the project for the joint production of the JF-17 Thunder aircraft, which are to be manufactured in Pakistan and inducted into the PAF next year. He also co-ordinated in September last year a highly ambitious PAF exercise code-named Highmark-05. He was also associated with the project for the clandestine acquisition of the M-9 and M-11 missiles from China and the Nodong series missiles from North Korea.

Of all the three services, the SLAF has the closest relations with its Pakistani counterpart. Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat, the Chief of the PAF, had visited Sri Lanka in March last year in return for a visit to Pakistan in 2003 by Air Marshal Donald Perera, the chief of the SLAF.Before the visit of the PAF chief, the SLAF had sent six of its fighter aircraft to Pakistan for overhauling. Technical personnel of the PAF play an important role in the repairs and maintenance of the aircraft and other equipment of the SLAF.

Before the visit of the Pakistani chief, the SLAF spokesperson Group Captain Ajantha Silva had said that the PAF had always been a friendly force and that the SLAF had received a lot of assistance from Pakistan. He had also said that the rapport between the service personnel of the two countries had always been very good, specially between the PAF and the SLAF.The Pakistani Government would always extend technical and other assistance to Sri Lanka."

It was reported in June last that the SLAF had asked the PAF for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and bunker-buster bombs for use against the LTTE.

The Sri Lankan govt has informed India of all the developments with Pakistan except the unpublicised visit by Gen.Mohammed Aziz Khan, then Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

The cooperation will continue.

Were exactly are the troops coming from? 80,000 are deployed on the Afghan border and taking away troops away from Indian border would be very dangerous (not because relations are bad at the moment, but the India may take advantage of weakness to be aggressive)

In addition, Pakistan is deeply involved in the current UN operations and has sent contingents. It is either the second or the third largest contributor to the UN forces.

It may also be in the process of sending a largish contingent to Lebanon.

The question of pulling out troops from the Kashmir would not be in the interest of Pakistan for obvious reasons.

If one looks at the Pakistani commitments, it would not be feasible for her to spare troops.

Further, while supply of materiel and technical assistance would be pursued, Pakistan is keen to have cordial relations with the India. Therefore, as far as General Musharraf is concerned, he would not like to irk India in anyway.

One aspect of General Musharraf is not be observed by many. He has a sense of history and apparently he wishes to go down in history of Pakistan as a great reformer.

You will find an extreme resemblance to the Tamil Tigers phenomenon to the so called MAOist movement in Nepal , the MQM in Karachi, the now defunt BLA in Baluchistan. the guess whos behind it all is pretty obvious, dont you think?

Categorizing MQM to something like BLA, Tamil tigers, etc, is something that i will not agree with. MQM simply means Mutahida Quami Movement which is only a politics party not just for mahajirs but for everybody. It is now getting a lot of influence in Lahore. MQM currently holds power in Karachi and the people of Karachi democratically elected MQM. So this is something you want to get updated of.

Also if your trying to name India as someone behind it all then your wrong. Be clear next time so criticism is open.

If the MQM is so "democratic" why is its leader Altaf Hussein still hiding in London? for a decade now. Why is he so scared? He is known to spend over $20,000 in one night at a popular casino near London.where do you think all that money comes from?


And.... just for your own knowledge...the MQM was identified by the CIA in the 80's as the worst terroristic party in Pakistan. They got their funding and arms and training in india. In BB's rule in the 90s....IronFist Babar straightened them out and gave them a good thrashing. Quite a few of their agents were killed and the indian counsulate in Karachi was shut down for good. Ever since then they have been under a tight leash thankfully.

BB saved Aziz from money laundering case: Babar


NEW YORK: Major General (r) Naseerullah Babar has claimed that when he was interior minister he had issued orders to arrest Shaukat Aziz in a money laundering case, but then prime minister Benazir Bhutto stopped him.

“When Shaukat Aziz was working with Citibank, he was involved in a money laundering case. After investigation I issued directives to arrest him but Benazir stopped it saying that Mr Aziz is an American citizen and his arrest will create problems,” Gen Babar said at the launch ceremony of Sohail Warriach’s book, ‘Ghaddar Kon’ (Who is the traitor?) here on Monday.

He said politicians had always been targets of accountability, and it was now time for military generals to be held accountable. “President General Pervez Musharraf will come to know about the people’s problems when he leaves the presidency. The president has bought a plot worth five crore rupees (Rs 50 million) in the capital. How has a general got such a huge amount?” he questioned. He said the public would have lynched generals in the street had the Hamood-ur-Rahman Commission report into the Fall of Dhaka been published. “(Zulfikar Ali) Bhutto saved them,” he said. So, I think that these General turned politicians are not too far from applying politics even when the facts are hoary.

One can only hope that Pakistan helps its fellow Asian country rid itself of the Tamil Tigers just like Pakistan has bought down the BLA to its knees. Sri Lankans have had enough of the Tamil Tiger war for a seperate land aligned with the Tamil population of a neighouring country. So i say give them the AL-Khalids and the K-8s and the specific munitions so this beautiful and lush South Asian country can progress peacefully.
