Sri Lanka finalises $1.12 bn port deal with China

If not for India's implicit consent, LTTE still would have been present even today. And Srilankans know it. As for middle ground, it came down from high pro-china to this.
Ya right, the Indians were using LTTE as a bargaining chip to hold SL down. Remember your Tamil votebank?

I think none of you understood or read the deal and are jumping up and down.

Sri Lanka officially just kicked out Chinese military presence and limited to only commercial vessels.
The revised agreement has a clause where it mentions that no Chinese military object must use the area or premises and entire security responsibility lies with Sri Lanka only.

And the cheerleaders started their daily jig , go on live in fantasy land , cheer for the Chinese military getting kicked out of the area.
Were there ever any Chinese military presence? And you think if Rajapaksa or another Anti Indian PM comes in, he won't revise that clause?

.

The previous deal enlisted the protection of the port and the region to China which is now stripped with clear cut mention of no Chinese military object must use the facilities in any form.

The port is bleeder so that 70% of bleeding is for the Chinese firm to sustain. Your primary object of a listening post is now officially kicked in the butt.

Can you show me the previous clause? Region? This port from day 1 did not have any military clause, the security meant the security of the port not sending in navy to protect it, China Merchants didn't trust the way SL manage the port security, the best example being the protest, ironically organized by Rajapaksa himself.

Whatever bleeder means. This port is commercially viable if run by Chinese entities, 80% port control is good enough. The militarization won't happen now even if Rajapaksa is in power. It will be in 10-20 years timeframe.

Exactly true the security of the port and its waterways were the responsibility of China earlier as you said , on that context China could have brought in its naval warships in pretext of security which is now impossible.

Now whether you like it or not it's Sri Lanka who would look after the security framework and the Chinese firm will have only commercial operation control.

Ask yourself why was the deal re negotiated ? The answer is there in the report itself as to who is responsible for the renegotiations. So who had the last laugh.

Bro, you are reading too much into it. China explicitly designed the deal so as to not antagonize India. But being the paranoid that you are....you think too much. The threat is not now, it's the future.

We have nullified the immediate threat.
Future challenges will he treated accordingly .

After what happened in Sri Lanka with this port don't expect anything from Sri Lanka in the immediate future.

Let's move to Myanmar and BD next.

So again I say all the cheerleaders need to decide whom and what are they cheering for.

What threat will a commercial Chinese firm have , for whatever you have elsewhere Chinese firms business in India itself is bigger.

You nullified nothing, since there was nothing to begin with. You would have nullified the future threat if you manage to stop the Chinese taking over the port altogether. Why don't we expect anything else? Srisena seems to be playing the middle game quite well, he explicitly made sure the Chinese still maintain control of the port. The future militarization burden will not fall on him, it will be others. His immediate problem is the debt.

The so called failed airport could be a Chinese air base in the future. SL do owe us billions afterall.

We play the long term game bro. Djibouti caught US by suprise, but notice how we were there 10 years earlier, building rails, modernizing ports and providing jobs. The Djiboutians see this, the Chinese are not there just for a base, it's more than that.

It all starts with an innocent little port. Do you know the story of Gwadar?

.
like i've said before numerous times in other threads:

naval base or not, a Chinese military installation in SL will only ADD to SL's security and benefit- and not decrease them.

It's her neighbour up north that is insecure.

My friend we want you to take the port in Sri Lanka , in Bangladesh and elsewhere in South Asia thus antagonising the local population and practices. You have alienated one 2 more to go then last your iron brother because even if they sink they will live in denial.

The failed airport as Chinese base because they owe you billions , this is eye opener approach for all to see.
We don't need to do anything the Chinese will dig their own grave.

What about Gwadar the last I checked you need two Pakistanis to protect one Chinese at the cost of Pakistani tax paying public.
Tell me when your CPEC turns profitable till then keep on dreaming.

A Chinese military installation would have but it's not possible anymore as per the new terms.

Yes, it was true before Rajiv gandhi assassination by LTTE. When Sonia Gandhi, the widower of Rajiv, came to power, she exacted revenge on LTTE by giving tacit approval by turning blind eye to the crack down of tamils. Without India on board, Srilanka or anyother power supporting it, could have done jack to LTTE.

If we are digging our graves, then you should let us do it right? Why are you so panicky? :D. Alienation will stop once an Anti-Indian PM comes on board, we will forgive the debts and in return we extend the lease of those ports and allow our ships to 'replenish', not military base per se. All Chinese bases are for 'replenishment' no military nature at all.

Not sure how many Pakistanis, but we do respect Pakistan sovereignity, they should be the ones protecting us and our base. I think we are giving Pakistan much more in return bhai. CPEC haven't even started yet, might or might not turn profitable is not the main concern, 40bil$ for military gain over India is priceless. You want to use 40bil$ on weapons to fight India or 40bil$ to change Pakistan economically and strengthen her to fight India?:D

I am neither panicky or worried my point was clear.
What are you cheering at ? this renegotiated deal is a loss on all fronts, economic , military , strategic and diplomatic power projection.

By your own admission no military Chinese base only replenishment can be sought by any country under laws and rights in peacetime provided the party pays up the charges.
By this action what does China gain ?

1. No military base
2. No profitable business
3. An antagonistic country wary of losing land and money due to debt trap.

So what is your deal , replenishing your ships in peacetime were possible even without the port deal.

Why are the Chinese repeating such words ?

I can smell a disaster.

1) No current military base
2) Not profitable yet but the potential of Hambatonta for China Merchants is immense.
3) Debt under current government, could be grant under next government.

How can it be a loss when it is clearly a commercial deal, and now fully managed commerically by China Merchants? Operations haven't even started under new management. Our lease is 99 years? There is so much time to play bro.

Loss in terms of military? I just explained, there is no loss since there was nothing to lose in the first place. We have no intention NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Get it?

See mate you had 100 dollar bill and now you have 70 dollars and you start jumping up and down with joy claiming profit its as easy as that.

No military base
No monetary gain
One sided grants to an alienated population as a possibility equivant to loss in economic terms.

99 years you are ready to bleed for one wrong decision ? Go on

Remember Soviet Union and its economic mismanagement the more you bleed and hide below the carpet the more skeletal you become. Nothing is permanent in this world.

.
Hambantota is actually extremely strategic, let's hope Rajapaksa win the next election, he will go full force on Chinese militarization of SL.

China will send in special forces to kill those RAW agent first to ensure Rajapaksa win next elections.

I can be sure those protest on street against China in Sri Lanka is orchestrated by RAW agent too.

Hambentota is extremely strategic and SL's taken it off your hands. Rajapakse is India's friend- he offered it to India before he offered it to SL.

You on pot? You have already communicated that the debt cannot be converted to grant, which is why this deal had to be restructured to start with.
