Sri Lanka does a Maldives, raises excise on Indian vehicles by 73%

Lol...the Korean SUV talked in the article which Micro plans to export to India, belongs to SsangYong which is a subsidiary of India's Mahindra & Mahindra...

But anyways nice cars but haven't seen any Chinese cars in Indian market maybe becoz of strict pollution norms...:)

I didn't know about that.

yep, we do have to take that certificate for every vehicle.

Is it that SL company branded these cars as panda or is it chinese brand itself.

No biggie, Sri Lanka with a population of 20 million is not a big market anyways, most Indian states have more population than that.

Auto industry cries foul on Sri Lanka's 'anti-India' stand

Auto industry cries foul on Sri Lanka's 'anti-India' stand - CNBC-TV18

And I guess voting against SL at the UN was "pro Sri Lanka"? LOL

Sponsor the LTTE, vote against SL at the UN, refuse to have a normal defence relationship, pander to politicians advocating separatism in SL and still want preferential treatment?

How interesting.

1. We didn't supported LTTE when SL forces were fighting LTTE.

2. GOI diluted the UN resolution directed towards SL for Human Right Violation.

3. India still trains SL troops despite the Tamil killing issue neither i see GOI protesting against SL when it buys Chinese weapons.

4. We aren't expecting any ''Prefrential treatment'' but just normal business relations as maintained by SL with rest of the world n have already provided bigger market excess to SL in the Indian market then what SL provides to India...

So what will indian do more of soft-power display in form of bollywood type soft mujras.of course bolloywood supposed to be one of your soft-power tool pdf indians always claim that on every bollywood/indian soft-power related threads. I wonder if indian diplomat get trained in doing bollywood item nos....................

You cannot beat soft power to pulp as it is already a soft thing. :D
India has lot of soft power potential which stretch from Japan to North Africa.
India is yet to achieve its economic potential and soft power potential. This tax is a good thing since it will make a way for a local manufacturing or assembly plant in Srilanka. Which will benefit both countries and increase India's soft power.

The article was actually about Power equipment.

Telecommunications is a whole different issue, with Huawei etc. In the case of telecommunications, India said there was a security issue. Which is fair, considering how important communication infrastructure is.

.....No Sri Lanka don't allow importing second hand vehicles. Only refurbished ones .....

.....:woot: .........no one refurbishes new cars :partay: . They are second hand cars repaired......we have something similar in India for Maruti...its called 'Maruti True Value'. But sadly no one in India calls it ....first hand refurbished cars.

Can u post some details about ur export claim?:what:

Btw do u know that out of the total bilateral trade between China n Sri Lanka of $3.14 billion, China dominates around 97%:woot: as SL exports hardly $80 million that to mostly raw material...:D

You mean China takes away 3 billion $ away from Sri Lanka every year ? ........:woot:

With friends like these who need enemies :cheesy:

Here is an interesting piece of news for comparison:

india-s-power-ministry-endorses-tripling-duty-on-china-equipment.html

Was it right in that case... but wrong in this case?

And before anyone starts talking about low-quality power equipment, it was actually the British-designed power grid that caused the nation-wide blackout in India. Not our exported equipment.

Of course it was right in this case....China has sold Nukes and missiles to pakistan.

Sri Lanka enjoys free trade agreement with India giving them access to a market of 1.2 billion people.

If we had really decide to support LTTE, Sri Lanka would have been split as two separate countries by now with the Tamil Dominated country owning the only road/rail link with India.........if you dont believe me just ask your friends in pakistan :coffee:

Dont be so excited to buy into your own propaganda.....

It doesn't matter if its Power, Telecom or automobiles .....China is a nation that has supplied unstable countries with Nukes and Missiles.

Its common sense not to let it benefit much from trade with India.
