David met Goliath on a tiny spit of rock and sand off the western coast of Luzon in the Philippines earlier this month. The giant here is China, with the Philippines as the puny David, and the confrontation occurred in Scarborough Shoal, an atoll-like collection of reefs, rocks and sandbars in the South China Sea.

National Coast Watch System observers in Luzon have for the past three weeks watched the presence of Chinese fishing vessels in the area, which the Philippine government claims is within its 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ). A Philippine Navy aircraft confirmed on April 8 that eight Chinese boats were inside the lagoon of Scarborough Shoal.

MANILA – The Philippines on Sunday called on other nations to take a stand on China’s new aggressiveness in a simmering territorial dispute over a shoal in the South China Sea.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario warned that other nations would be affected by China’s claim over the mineral-rich area if they did not speak up now, like the Philippines is doing....
He added that China’s efforts to claim the entire South China Sea as its territory was “clearly baseless.”....
The Philippines has been actively urging its fellow members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to take a firmer stance on China’s claim over the South China Sea.

Let's examine this. In China's history, they've mostly fought among themselves. They have fought only a few foreigners and it wasn't pretty. The fought Genghis Khan and his Mongol hordes but ended up getting their capital burned to the ground and living as slaves under the barbarians. The Japanese raped their land and took half of the country. The Vietnamese whooped their behind. Oh I forgot, they did win against the Tibetans and it was a mighty and glorious victory. Picking on tiny and weak nations like Vietnam and the Philippines is always a safe bet. But I do wonder why China hasn't picked on someone worthy of a challenge say like my the good old USA or Russia or India, but that is of course is a losing proposition.

ASIA nations must be united and turns it to become a pack to confront China. That's only choices SEA nations must do.

For now, Malysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore still remain silent. That is why China Maritime ships still going around SCS.

Vietnam goverment remains silence too....

Sorry, have to correct you that china fought a war called korean war with USA in 1950. A border war/conflict with USSA at Ussuri River and on Damansky island in 1969 and a border war with Indians in 1962... Having said that, you have to admit that the results weren't too bad for Chinese.. Go check your library books if you want to know more. Milky yankees..
