There is already a project being crowd funded named as LightSail by Planetary Society. They have just completed a test flight and sail called back home.

In space, there is no night. Sun shines 24/7.

Ooooo brilliant. Just donating to it. Wish had more money man! Would have funded it and told them to include couple of IITs in the project . Dammit!

Edit - They are saving the card number I think, did not do it :(

interesting. this is essentially directional, visible light driven photoemission. however, in normal photoemission, charge neutrality is maintained by a wire connected to the instrument, and the detector is also connected to the instrument, creating a circuit. There is no circuit here otherwise net momentum would be zero. How is charge neutrality maintained? If charge neutrality is not maintained, eventually the surface charge would be too positive for photoemission to occur.

Ask yourself, what is this guy holding in 1948? That was Roswell crash in which this thin silverish material was discovered. People who had touched this material said it can be crippled but it goes back to its original shape. It was thought as "silver paper" then. That was the first time an alien object had crashed on earth.
