What's new

South Korea's fertility rate set to hit record low of 0.96

What an unfit culture...

We should learn from this and keep our fertilty healthy 2.5-3 kids per woman). This is for ALL Muslim countries.

Especially Turkey and Iran etc

Germany has free college iirc but their TFR is still around 1.5.

Hmm...don’t know the full story in Germany. They probably have free child care

Maybe in previous times when people got married earlier they hadn’t yet experienced being at a high standard of living. It could be that people are now more interested in achieving a certain standard of living BEFORE they get married. However that doesn’t totally explain the low birthrate.

I don't think that's the only factor.

The average number of children born to married females in Singapore is around 2.1. That's actually quite healthy imo.

However 40% of our people are unmarried, which means only 60% of our women are in the breeding pool.

https://www.singstat.gov.sg/find-da...tal-status-marriages-and-divorces/latest-data

2.1x0.6=1.2

This basically explains why our TFR is only 1.2 over the past few years. Even if the average no. of children rose to 3.0, our TFR would still only be 1.8.

So it's important for our people to get off the internet, find a partner and get married instead of whining of being single.

East Asia aren't the West where birth out of wedlock is more acceptable.

Interestingly, the NPTD pointed out that while falling birth rates are a challenge that most developed countries face, some nations - like Sweden and Denmark - have seen improving fertility rates which are closer to their fertility-replacement levels.

However, it noted that 30 per cent to over 50 per cent of children are born out of wedlock in these countries, compared to 1.5 per cent to 2 per cent in East Asian societies.

Hence, the NPTD said that Singapore must find proparenthood policies that are best suited to its own circumstances, cultural norms and socio-economic conditions.

The chart is quite similar to TFR ranking.
