South Korean military contingent in the United Arab Emirates under a program to help train UAE troops will receive the advanced infantry combat system designed to improve the connectivity and combat effectiveness of combat personnel.
According to the bemil.chosun.com, South Korea’s Army will provide 125 troops, who will depart for the UAE on Thursday, with the “warrior platform,” consisting of 18 pieces of combat equipment, for the first time. Later, it will apply the platform to other units in stages.
The troops will replace their fellows who have served as part of the Akh unit tasked with training UAE troops and protecting South Korean nationals in the Middle East country in case of emergencies. Akh means brothers in Arabic.
“The reason why we offer the warrior platform to the Akh unit is that there is a need to secure the deployment condition in line with our country’s national status,” the Army said in a press release.
“Another purpose is to contribute to the operational deployment of the platform by finding if there is anything that needs to be complemented after operating it under various weather conditions and terrain features,” it added.
The platform also includes enhanced telescopic sights, battle uniforms, protective glasses, hearing protection headsets and bulletproof vests.
