SEOUL, March 27 (Yonhap) - South Korea and the UAE have agreed to strengthen cooperation in semiconductors, nuclear power and others.
The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Energy in Seoul said Tuesday that its Minister Paek Won-kyu participated in the signing ceremony of memorandums of understanding in the sectors of industry and energy, and was held on March 25-26 in the UAE.
The two countries signed memoranda of understanding for cooperation in semiconductors, memorandums of understanding in new energy industries such as smart grid, memorandum of understanding on nuclear power and others.
The Ministry of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Minister of Education, Hussein Al Hammadi, to cooperate in the training of manpower in semiconductors and agreed to work on the qualification of cadres in semiconductors from the two countries and to expand channels of cooperation.
Samsung Engineering and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company signed two contracts worth $ 3.07 billion to build facilities.
The Korea Electric Power Engineering and Construction Company of Nawaat Power Company received a deal worth $ 400 million.
The bilateral relations between South Korea and the UAE were upgraded to a special strategic partnership on the occasion of the meeting between President Mo Jie-nen and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which will enhance future economic cooperation between the two countries, the ministry said.
