South Korea is discussing financial terms and other responsibilities with Indonesia for their partnership to produce the Korean Fighter Experimental (KF-X) project.

South Korea is in the “final stage” of negotiations with Indonesia over their partnership on a local fighter jet development program and the results will possibly come early next week, the defense procurement agency said yesterday as quoted by Yonhap news.

Kim Si-cheol, spokesman for the Defense Acquisition Program Administration said at a press briefing that "The result is possible for early next week."

Indonesia and South Korea entered into a preliminary agreement last month under which the former will bear 20 per cent of the development cost for the KF-X project in return for 50 aircraft. The project is expected to fructify by 2025.

Indonesian media has reported earlier that the total cost to Jakarta for its share KF-X project and the 50 aircraft would be in the region of US$1.5-2 billion.

Seoul roped in Jakarta for the project after the U.S. refused to approve the transfer of four key fighter jet technologies out of 25 that U.S.-based defense firm Lockheed Martin had offered in an offset deal linked to South Korea's purchase of 40 F-35 Lightning II jets last year.

For the transfer of the remaining 21 technologies, South Korea is currently in discussions with the U.S. firm in Seoul, Kim said, according to Yonhap.

There is no conformal weapon bay yet for the first version, but only semi-conformal weapon bay.

Is Korea finished building this? The US stopped vital parts for export for this this fighter recently.

How is the funding scheme like? 75-25? 80-20? 50-50?

South Korean stick to 80-20 per-cent share, although Indonesian wants a greater share and responsibility (and technical information too)

South Korean had other way to secure what ever technologies to be needed to finished this fighter, by any means

I wonder why Indonesia went with S. Korea. The experience that Korean has right now is only the trainer plane T50 with most high skill tasks resourced to Lockheed Martin. Their KF-X has been stuck on PPT/CGI stage for years. They cannot compete with India or Japan on this area. I would say this KFX is inferior to Rafeal or Typhoon, and Europeans are willing to transfer tech as they did in Indian case. Actually China's J31 is also a better option to Indonesia than this no stealthy, no internal weapon bay stuff, and J31 is soliciting international investment.

It's not about the aircraft, but about how Indonesia will be able to build the fighterOurselves. It is a learning curve for us, as our auroplane engineers actively work inside the project. While J-31 is good. But we don't learn anything from it. Unless China teach us how to build it ourselves (that is impossible to happen).

One of the most critical part is how to conceal our radar wave

Internal weapon bay has been planed as well, but if semi conformal can still be stealthy so it is better since it will launch the missile much faster. Who said KFX/IFX is not stealthy...?
