South Korea: Bollywood’s Future Market?

Bollywood is watched by an equal, or even greater, amount of people outside India. The problem is that the people that watch them, primarly Pakistan, the middle east, Africa and Russia, don't legally purchase the films.

Can you provide some stats about Bollywood popularity in mainstream Russia, outside a cult niche?

Bollywood is watched in Pakistan and the Middle East, not because of any artistic draw, but simply because, unlike the local movie industry, Bollywood shows skin. A lot of it.

Sex sells; that's all there is to it.

In Western, East Asian and other countries, where there is not such a taboo against female semi-nudity in local movies, Bollywood has failed to make inroads beyond a niche market (rare exceptions notwithstanding).

I don't know whenever Bollywood is mentioned some Pakistanis start acting like butt hurt people jumping up n down...

Ok tell me if bollywood is all about skin showing n sex then why it has a bigger female audience abroad than male, whether its Pakistan, Middle East, Russia or even Africa n Latin America...

All I see is a blog about some guy's trip to Russia. No statistics.

I have also met a lot of Russians and, aside from the word Bollywood, they have no idea about specific movies or personalities. The only thing they know about Bollywood (from mainstream media clips) is the image of scantily (and brightly) clad women dancing suggestively. It's basically soft **** for the 'respectable' man.

The only people throwing a tantrum are you Indians. I can accept that Pakistani women would like Bollywood because of cultural similarities, but not these other countries.

Let's see some stats for (non-Indian expat) female audiences in Middle East, Africa, Russia, Latin America, etc.

Statistics, as in real numbers.

Bollywood isn't busy in conducting surveys to satisfy personal egos, I m telling u from my personal experience, if u want any more proof u can surf youtube or read blog but that won't satisfy u so i can't help u here....

Besides its diffcult for narrow minded people to look outside the box so can't help again...

So lets agree to disagree as i don't wanna bring Lollywood n other crap in this thread, u can believe whatever lets u sleep tight...

It's got nothing to do with mulla. I am not passing a moral judgement on Bollywood, but an artistic and creative criticism.

Anyone can pull together a bunch of half-naked girls dancing together and, with enough marketing, push it through. The vast majority of music videos around the world are just that. It takes no imagination, creativity or artistic talent to do that.

Yeah artistic creation and innovation is gandassa wielding "Maula Jatt".
LOL

I watch neither Bollywood nor Lollywood. Both have gone down in quality, Lollywood drastically, since the old days. The issue is not the rare gems that come out, but the normal churn.

And, before you say anything, I am not saying average Hollywood movies are any more artistic. My point was that, if people want soft ****, they can get it from local cinema or Hollywood, and Bollywood finds few mainstream buyers outside specific (conservative) markets.
