If just 40,000 Pakistani soldiers managed to rape 3 million Bengali women and kill another 3 million Bengali people, then either the soldiers were super men, or there's something terribly wrong with Bengali people.

By comparison, there were a similar number of US troops involved in Korean war and the North Korean casualties were 1.9 million and 815 thousand fatalities.
But that was due to massive ariel bombing by USAF.
635 thousand tons of bombs were dropped on Korea.
Not a single building was left standing In Pyongyang and they had to make underground tunnels to save population from American bombing.
How many bombs did PAF drop on East Pakistan?
I doubt Pakistan army even had 3 million bullets to kill that many bengalis.

Problem is that your propaganda is Indian propaganda who then uses it at every waking moment to malign Pakistan.

But India is, and India has a much larger and louder platform than you people. So establishing the truth is of the utmost importance to us. All sane people will agree that 40-50k troops can't kill 3 million and rape 200k while fighting a war over 9 months. It is literally impossible given that the Pak army only had light weapons and there would be mass graves coming up like mushrooms.


As a Pakistani I want the truth to be established on both sides, but the problem is that for you and India, the truth will only hurt you as your 3 million will be debunked and the genocide of the Biharis will be brought to light. Which will hurt your propaganda.

After the withdrawal of Pakistan army , the Indian army was keeping peace in Dhaka and the rest of Bangladesh, and they were not interested. Countless "Rojakaar" , Bihari and other non Bengali were killed and raped by rampant Mukti Bahini . All that death toll was far higher than what was during the 9 month war .

However we demonize IA troops of 1971, it was them who resisted Mukti Bahini to perpetuate many crimes against the Biharis. Biharis were actually saved by the IA presence.

I am not going to question your anecdotes, which would be in very bad taste and inhuman as well.

Not all Bangladeshis are as evil or as animalistic as the Muktis that took your family members' lives. In Bangladesh most of us know Bihari-origin or Urdu speaking folks today - they are our close friends, colleagues and compatriots. It would be unthinkable now for an educated Bengali person to mistreat a Bihari person based on their ethnicity. Maybe it was different fifty years ago when politics blinded us and made us animals.

However - although I sympathize with the senseless and mind-numbing/painful loss of your family members and while nothing that is done now can bring them back, we should still remember that atrocities were committed by all sides during 1971 and nothing justified the brutality committed. All sides ultimately suffered - which of course does not reduce the importance of your loss. That is however the nature of war.

But at least now, Hasina is doing something to help the 250,000 Bihari folks and their children left in Bangladesh when Pakistan refused to take Bihari folks. Biharis were given full citizenship in 2008 and Hasina also promised to move them out of the refugee camp and provide them housing. We discussed this here in PDF two years ago. I hope we can finally integrate Biharis and Bengalis into our respective national milieus in both countries and make them fully functioning educated members of society.

Bilal, good points. Here is an example of where we can learn from each other and perhaps come up with a combined narrative. Pakistan has retained 2.5 million Bengalis - some of them - legal immigrants others "illegal". We have several "Mini Bangladesh" colonies in karachi just like other colonies. Pakistan refused the 250k biharis because it was already keeping many bengalis who are now well assimilated in Sindh with urdu speakers.

I personally believe Pakistan should have brought those biharis from Bangladesh. They deserve their status in Pakistan more than the millions of non-Pakistani Afghans we have hosted. (That's another point).

The real point is that we only have the grievance narrative against each other when the context can aid mutual understanding.

That's why in my Mind General Niazi was a Hero.
It was a deal between him and Indian army chief General Sam Manekshaw.
At the time most of Pakistani and Indian top brass knew each other, because they trained together at Sandringham in Britain, before partition .
That commeradery and personal knowledge about each other meant that Pakistani top brass knew that the Indian general is a man of his words unlike the politicians.
For Pakistan army it was no longer a war worth fighting as politicians and people on both sides were no longer interested in reconciliation.
Mujeeb was in prison, totally unaware of what's happening. In east Pakistan The show was being run by KGB and RAW.
In West Pakistan Bhutto had no interest in anything other than him becoming the ruler, and people were also not bothered about what's happening in East Pakistan.
General Niazi did the nest thing in the situation. Struck a deal with Manekshaw.
Got the guarantee of safe repatriation of Pakistani army and families. And a half assed guarantee was given by Indians for safety of Non Bengali in East Pakistan.
Pakistan army was repatriated.
The other part of the deal was limited to some refugee camps set up for Buharis .
These places didn't have the capacity to take in more than a few thousand.
The rest were on their own and killed like vermin.
