What's new

South Asian Games 2016

Don't worry they wont.

There's maybe a small chance you will displace Pakistan consistently to be fixed 2nd place when you finally win a medal in the olympics one of these years.....(or maybe decades from now who knows).

Per-crore medal tally:2010. Look all the countries performed better than India.

1 India .75 .45 .24 .14
2 Pakistan 1.12 1.47 2.12 .47
3 Bangladesh 1.11 1.42 3.39 .59
4 Sri Lanka 8.00 17.00 26.00 5.10
5 Nepal 2.39 3.07 6.14 1.16
6 Afghanistan 2.48 3.19 5.67 1.13
7 Bhutan 0 28.57 42.86 7.14
8 Maldives 0 0 66.67 6.67

Now Bhakts/Shivsena etc have no issue with visiting Pakistani team? o_O

Medals per person is a flawed way of telling how good a nation did in the games. Do you know that there is a limit on how many participants can take part per country in every event? Not surprised you choose 2010 South Asian Games because Bangladesh had more participants than other countries due to hosting.

In simple words, suppose Badminton is the only event in games and there is only 1 medal to be won. Now in scenario 1, Bangladesh won 1 medal, so its 0.05 medals per 1 crore. In scenario 2, India won 1 medal, its 0.007 medals per 1 crore. Although India won all medals, its still behind in medals per population.

Medals won per participation/qualification is much better that medals per population but even that is far from reality. There are a lot of qualifiers who are never expected to win any medals. And if people think that more population = more medals then they are wrong. There is a limit a human can go, most of the time factors due to high population are neglegible in front of factors like experience, strategy or even luck, such as in sports like lets say Cricket or Hockey.

You are free to use the same formula for Asian Shooting Championship 2015, Chinese won't agree with you.

Even if we won all the medals , our per-crore tally will remain abysmal .It is good to compare using per-crore if you are comparing India with similar large country like China or may be The US .

Hmmm... Well out of the 11 times the games have been held Pakistan had been second in the gold medal count 7 times, while Sri Lanka has been thrice and quite surprisingly Nepal once.. So its not a fixed position by any means

The benefits of being the host maybe? Though I guess SL has won one 2nd place one more time than it has hosted the games....which I am not surprised by since SL has a somewhat more diverse athletic presence per capita than many regions of South Asia (engaging in such things as rugby etc.)

Now do the same for an athletic meet that actually means something: Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth games etc.

At least Pakistan has won some medals in those.....what about you guys? :D

Being hosts certainly helps, Also Sri Lankan athletics used to dominate especially on the track sprint events all throughout the 90's to the mid 2000's.. So they bagged a lot of medals not just in south Asian games but at Asian levels, Many still hold Asian records in track events

Also it's strange in a region that is dominated by sports like Cricket, Hockey and Football, Lankans excel in short distance running (Well not anymore), Rugby and Netball.. Sports that are little or almost non existent in the rest of the sub continent but more popular in other commonwealth nations like Australia, NZ, and South Africa or even Britain itself

I think Bangladesh is GAMING (Mario, Contra, Jungle, Tetris......) HYPERPOWER................

Expect First Place for them...........

That's was good. Thanks for the tag. :)
This is the first time i am listening to any of the state anthems.
Jai Ho kids were good, and so was the modified version of Vande Mataram.
Though I like the original version better (the faster version). This

thanks for the time stamps... was helpful... also for the screenshots.

though i think the state anthem is good i don't think a choir-style singing is suited to this.

it would have been good to sing the anthem in assami/bengali style.

She is quite talented. Hope she goes far.

nahid afrin was my favorite participant in that contest... the judges and some of the industry too knew that her talent, beauty, gracefulness and stage presence makes her a fine all-round performer, like shreya ghoshal... during the contest, sonakshi got the makers of her film, akira, to have nahid sing the film's songs... i have more than once posted her songs on "what are you listening" thread.

about her sag games performance, though the singing was technically sound and the music was superbly performed ( who?? ) i don't think a song that has the words "jism ghul rahe hain, rooh gal rahi hai" was appropriate for a sports event.

a appropriate song for a south asia sports/political event would have been "panchi nadiya pawan ke jhonke" :

Panchi Nadiya Pawan Ke - Refugee (1080p HD Song) - YouTube

and nahid and papon could have replicated the superb bihu song ( pak pak ) they had performed in the closure episode of "indian idol junior - 2"... i didn't understand the words but the two sung it so gladly that everyone around the stage was pepped-up :

Papon & Nahid | Bihu (pak pak ) | Indian Idol Junior | - YouTube

and during the episode, papon said that out of assam came only three famous things - tea, himself and nahid. :D
