Asia have won the bid to host the 2011 World Cup by beating a joint bid by Australia and New Zealand by ten votes to three. The ICC's executive committee met in Dubai on Sunday, and made series of decisions regarding the future hosting of events. After missing out on 2011, Australia and New Zealand have the 2015 World Cup and England the 2019 event.
"We did a great job, the four countries put together an impressive presentation and we got 10 out of 13 votes," Lalit Modi, BCCI vice-president told the Press Trust of India. "We are looking forward to it. A lot of work has to go in. The four countries will jointly sit down along with ICC to chalk out plans for hosting the 2011 World Cup. A lot of infrastructure needs to be put in place. We are mentally geared up for it. We will do the task at hand."
Reflecting on the decision over the 2011 tournament, Ehsan Mani, the ICC President, said: "On behalf of the ICC I congratulate the four Asian members on earning the right to host the World Cup 2011.
"Since turning up at the ICC board meeting in March with an unviable submission they have worked hard to satisfy the strict hosting criteria set by the ICC. That a compliant submission was produced ahead of the final deadline earlier this month is testament to the capacity of these four countries to work together.
"We can now prepare with confidence for what promises to be the biggest occasion that cricket fans in Asia and around the world will ever have seen. This is the first time that members interested in hosting ICC events have been required to produce submissions that fulfil strict hosting criteria and we have been delighted with the process.
The delegates representing the Asian bid at the meeting also expressed their joy at securing the right to host the 2011 tournament.
"We are delighted to have been asked to host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, it is a tremendous honour," said Shaharyar Khan, the chairman of the PCB. "The submissions process has been eye-opening for all of us. I don't think we fully appreciated the volume of work that was required to produce a compliant submission and we are grateful to the ICC Board for allowing us extra time to complete this process."
I.S.Bindra, who attended the meeting on behalf of the BCCI, said: "I was fortunate enough to be associated with Asia's previous successful bids for the 1987 and 1996 tournaments. Both of those were great successes and we hope 2011 will represent a new landmark as a cricketing and sporting milestone.
"We can promise that the 2011 Cricket World Cup will be as big as the football World Cup. In Asia you will see traffic stop, and massive television audiences and crowds for all the matches played."
The BCCI secretary, Naranjan Shah, who was in Dubai to help deliver the Asian presentation, added: "We worked hard as a group and we were all determined to get the World Cup. It has been a joint effort and this result is the fruits of those efforts."
The Bangladesh representative, Mohammad Ali Asghar MP, said: "This is fantastic news and is a big progression for Bangladesh, especially as we have also secured an ICC Event in 2014. The matches in our country will definitely keep up Bangladesh's development in world cricket and we congratulate the ICC for giving us this chance. We will ensure we have all the support necessary from our Government to make these events successful."
Jayantha Dharmadasa, the chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), added: "It is difficult to find the words to express how delighted I am with this news. All of Sri Lanka, from the President down, will be thrilled with what has happened and with the problems in the country at the moment this is a very positive thing.
"We have also been awarded an ICC Event in 2012, and whether it will be a Twenty20 World Championship or a Champions Trophy we are so happy to be hosting it. The events in 2011 and 2012 mean that we will have hosted five ICC tournaments in 12 years and that speaks very highly of Sri Lanka, SLC and the present administration.
"We will have two new grounds by then with one near Kandy and the newly renovated stadium in Galle and that means we would have a total of seven excellent world-class venues to use."
The result is a boost for the Asian group whose bid had been weakened by a late submission. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had made a bid and were allowed an extension until April 21 to set out their proposal after they had difficulty hitting the first deadline in March. In the end, when it came down to voting, the Asian group came through with a big majority.

It seems that you have quite abit of interest in cricket @@@ AHSAN.R
It's a good news guyzz. Good for the economy$$$, to gain some popularity in the world, to make a good impression on foreighners and plus for the craze:woot: of people. One main thing both INDIA and PAKISTAN are organising this event together, and its good step to have more healthy friendship.

So a Question:p ????

Did they decide whose gonna play the "FINAL"? :?:
I know there's still a despute.......

Well it's already decided that the semi finals will be played in India and final in Pakistan. The only question is which venue? Probably Lahore or Karachi

Undoubtly:rolleyes: , its going to be lahore.

Plus this is going to be first time that, pakistan alone gonna organise a big tournament (Champion's trophy) in 2008. Another good step.:flag:

It Looks as if INDIA is going to host the "FINAL" man.

Mate, unless they change their mind, Pakistan will be hosting the final.

What do you mean? I thought India will host semi-finals while Pakistan will host the final? Or is Pakistan trying to make more profit by getting semi-finals?

Thats what I said man. Lets get this clear, unless the 4 countries hosting this change their minds, India will host semi finals and Pakistan will host the final.

Actually its still to be decided.

A decision on the venues for the semi-finals and final of the 2011 World Cup - to be held jointly in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - will be made over the next three to four months, the Pakistan Cricket Board said today.
Addressing reporters at the National Stadium, in Karachi, the chairman Shaharyar Khan denied that a decision had already been taken for Pakistan to host the final and for India to host the semi-finals. "During the next few months together we will decide where opening ceremonies, super eight venues, semis and the final will be held."
Reports had previously suggested Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium may play host to the final, as it had done in the 1996 World Cup but Shaharyar said that wasn't certain yet. In India meanwhile, it was reported that the BCCI were keen on hosting the final, given that Pakistan had held the last one. "I have said and will say again that it would be good to replicate the 1996 scenario but we are open to other suggestions. That is just my own feeling but it will be decided in the forthcoming months with the Indian board."
Shaharyar also lauded the efforts of the co-hosts in putting together a successful bid, claiming that the one-month grace period they received having failed to hand in the bid on time, helped them in the end. And he reconfirmed that had it not been for the board's reminder to their Indian counterparts about the compliance book - the final bid document - Asia may well have lost the bid. "Sharad Pawar sent us a letter thanking us for the timely reminder we gave them about the compliance bid, barring which we would not have won."
The PCB, as part of their preparations, are also planning on bringing the administration of stadiums in Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi - all venues for 2011 - under their control. Currently, the PCB are in charge of affairs at the Gaddafi and National Stadium in Lahore and Karachi respectively, as well as a host of others.
"Our preparations for the World Cup have to begin in earnest from now and one of the first things we must accomplish is gaining control of stadiums in Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi. We need to bring these stadiums up to international standards and at the moment they aren't. But I will impress upon the government that these stadiums need to be in our control for them to be upgraded to the requisite standard."

India thanks Pakistan over rescued World Cup 2011 bid
PCB to restore Grade-II cricket from next season, says Shahryar

Staff Report

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to restore Grade-II cricket from next season to provide a chance to budding cricketers, PCB chairman Shahryar Mohammad Khan told reporters during a press conference at the National Stadium here on Wednesday. “We abandoned Grade-II cricket last season but on the recommendations of the some cricketers we will restore it from 2006-07 season,” he added. He said some boys, who were not eligible to play Under-19, needed a platform like Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and Patron’s Trophy Grade-II to nurture their skills and talent.

Regarding illegal bowling action of bowlers, he said a panel had been formed which would decide about their action. Shahryar said Pakistan would send A team for next year’s inaugural Twenty20 Cup. “We have just started playing this brand of cricket. The PCB may send a joint team comprising cricketers from Sialkot and Faisalabad.” At the same time he said Twenty20 was not a creditable cricket.

He expressed his delight over winning the joint bid of hosting the 2011 World Cup. “United efforts of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan were behind it.” To a query, he said the Asian countries had yet not decided which city would host the final of the 2011 World Cup. “The Asian countries are going to have three to four meetings in next five months and in those meetings everything regarding the World Cup will be finalized.” He made it clear there was no prestige involved who was going to host the final.

Shahryar said the Indian cricket board had thanked Pakistan for rescuing the Asian bid for the 2011 World Cup. “In a letter sent to me, BCCI president Sharad Pawar credited Pakistan for saving a bid which he said could have been lost by default.” said the PCB chief.

Shahryar requested the Government of Pakistan to hand over the cricket grounds of Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan to the PCB so that they can be renovated before the World Cup. He said Mudassar Nazar had been made the director of National Cricket Academy (NCA) because of his experience. “We received many applications and interviewed many candidates but Mudassar proved to be the most suitable man.” Regarding the appointment of Johnty Rhodes as the fielding coach, Shahryar said Rhodes doesn’t have the magic stick but his presence would certainly create an impact on the Pakistani fielders. “We don’t have the fielding culture at the highest, middle or lower level. And we want to change this culture. Rhodes is the ideal man for this job,” he concluded.

Cricket-Pakistan plan new stadium in Islamabad

KARACHI, May 25 (Reuters) - Pakistani cricket authorities are planning a new stadium in the capital Islamabad to host matches at the 2008 Champions Trophy and 2012 World Cup, a senior Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official told Reuters on Thursday

"We are acquiring land in Islamabad and will sign a memorandum of understanding soon," PCB director of cricket operations Saleem Altaf said.
"We are hoping the new stadium will be ready before the Champions Trophy."
Pakistan were awarded hosting rights for the 2008 Champions Trophy and the 2012 World Cup, in a joint-bid with India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Dubai last month.

"We only own two stadiums in Karachi and Lahore. The rest of the stadiums we have to hire from the local administrations, which is why we want to have our own venue in Islamabad," Altaf said.

The Pakistan board often encounter financial problems and organisational issues where the local administration has control of stadiums.
Despite being a top-ranked cricket nation, Pakistan only has six active test and international venues in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi and Peshawar.

The ICC expressed reservations over the ground conditions and facilities at the stadium in Peshawar after a one-day match against India in February.
Altaf said the PCB had studied the details of a cricket stadium being built in Dubai's sports city and would try to implement some of the design aspects at the Islamabad stadium.
