Please, the US is just as bad if not worse than India wrt political discourse. The Democrats and Republicans are divided on almost every issue and what's worse is that in many places what party you support divides the soceiety. In India whether you vote one way or another- no one cares.

Well if you think about it makes a difference in India. Look at the complete picture of who and what Babsaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar represents. DALITS. I didn;t know much about him until I read up on him and I was unbelieveably surprised. For a ppl so oppressed and so downtrodden, he proved beyond a reasonable doubt that given the right frame of mind and the right tools, anyone can succeed. Sadly, he died angry with Indian politics. Frankly, he was too ahead of his time. Far, far ahead. Anyway, he represents how a Dalit was able to come so far and contribute heavily to India.

The trouble is there aren't many serious alternates to congress in several states and in this era of coalition politics, Congress has been able to keep its alliance intact. Till Vajpayee sahab was active, there was a serious hope for BJP and now its anybody's guess. The fact of the matter remains no single party would ever get majority and Congress being Tikadambaaz as they are will form another ineffective alliance.

Modi has an image issue but if someone like Modi truly wants to win the seat for PM, he should leave the BJP and float his own party based on merit and competence like himself. Change himself completely in that sense, so the majority of ppl can identify a person who is above all different from the same cup of politics. Damn I wish I could consult for him and plan his success.

Anyways I also have an ambition to enter this field after securing my family's future so that I can concentrate on nation building as & when I'm in a position to do so

The Anna Hazare movement & the separatist Kejriwal are a step in the right direction except for one fatal flaw that not many of their members are serious about going full throttle, you have to be dedicated to this job & not take it as a part time chore for publicity !

If you start with a clean slate & make it to the top unblemished(sorta like Imran Khan perhaps) then you'll have the authority & the masses behind you ! However something like this cannot be achieved in a decade or two, we need something like ~50yrs to turn the mess around of the last century !

From what I know Kejriwal wanted to change the system by joining politics, from the inside, unlike Anna who's hellbent on keeping a distance from all things sleazy ! The problem with Kejriwal is that he's a fringe player & doesn't seem willing to fight elections, then there is this problem of his associates as most of'em are salaried/self employed but middle class people so they really don't have much time/money to dedicate to this cause ! So basically the problem is you need to be in a position to effect this change, but moreover you need more like minded people like yourself to take this march forward ! The latter is the hard(er) part which is where the buck stops !

You can't discount the fact that they had a head start of more than 150 years. The Indian system is still new far from maturing. Majority of population is uneducated. There is lot of unequal wealth distribution. There is a lot of Social Churning happening. We may even have to go through a civil war like the Americans did. Who know? But hopefully we can do without.

As we mature in times to come though we will be a much better country.

Let me clarify a quick point. The majority of our population is uneducated but what you missed is that this was a correctable issue. A minster under Nehru pleaded and advocated that primary education be strengthened and guaranteed for all children under 12. He tried so hard to get this passed but Nehru just ignored the sound advice. The civil war you mentioned is already happening and its with the Naxalites/Maoists. However, the media paints in a different light with different intentions. Are they perfect? No but neither is our gov;t. If we continue to allow convicted and court case pending criminals in politics, then we have no hope. The media tries to play out how this is hard to rectify. NO ITS NOT HARD. The majority of India has the common sense to know right and wrong. We inherited democracy from the British yet we never ever tweaked it to work for INDIA by INDIANs. Just becasue it works over there doesn;t mean it works in India and needs to be changed accordingly asap
