Some Rare Footages of 1965 War

Actually M-47/M-48 of Pakistan Army proved their role in Sialkot on the very first day and this became the decisive battle which ultimately resulted in defeat of Indian Army 1st Armored Division.

Furthering Interesting to note is that Pakistan Artillery gained superiority on Indian Artillery not just through accurate firing on Indian troops which remained unmatched to same degree by Indian Artillery, but also destroyed Indian Army SP guns Sexton as well as destroyed Indian Artillery field guns through effective counter battery fire.

On Sialkot side, Pakistan's 1st SP, 15 SP, 16 SP, 8 Medium, batteries of 33 Heavy and 34 Heavy Regiments took part in annihilating Indian infantry, armor and artillery.

M-47 and M-48 of Pakistan 1st Armored Division faced Indian infantry of 4th Mountain Div and Indian Army 2nd Armored Brigade after the capture of Khem Karan. It was majorly Indian 106 mm guns of Indian 4th Mountain Div that stopped the M-47/48 tanks which lacked infantry support.

Coincidentally, Indian Centurion tanks at Sialkot met the similar fate against Pakistan 106 mm RR guns of 13 FF and 14 FF infantry battalions. 1965 war also saw the employment of ATGM Cobra used by 13 FF R&S (Now LAT) of Pakistan Army. Cobra ATGM had a range of 1500 m or 1.5 km. 13 FF had 106 mm RR guns and Cobra ATGM when it faced 16 Cavalry (1st Armored Brigade of 1st Armored Division Indian Army) in Sialkot,

2 x Platoons of 15 jeeps armed with 106mm RR guns and MGs, 13 FF troops decimated following Indian forces the very first day, :

1. A squadron (15) worth Indian Tanks destroyed, rest of 16 Cavalry which had to "LIMP MARCH" back to reach HQ of 1st Armored Division of Indian Army.

2. 3 x tanks destroyed (62 Cavalry Indian Army) which were escorting towed guns of 71 Medium Regiment ndian Army, destroying 6 x Artillery guns and all the trucks towing guns and ammunition. No vehicle left standing intact.

After facing 13 FF R&S Pakistan Army, a captain of Indian Army (later Brig J S Bhullar), mentioned:

Our main armoured offensive with our elite Black Elephant Division with Poona Horse, Hodson Horse, 16 Cav, 62 Cav and 2nd Lancers was opposed on the first day by nothing more than jeep mounted machine guns and the antitank recoiless guns of a Recce and Support battalion. This Pak battalion defended ground by mobility and fire power.

I have mentioned this action by 13 FF for members to note that Pakistan's M-47 and M-48 faced the same anti tank recoil-less guns of Indian Army conducting offensive after capture of Khem karan or Indian version of battle of assal utar. But when Pakistani Pattons M-48s and M-47s faced Indian Centurions, they ripped apart Centurion tanks of Indian Army as seen by actions of 25 Cavalry and later by 100th Independent Armored Brigade(6th Armored Division) of Pakistan Army
