Your hero should be the Suleiman the magnificent, NOT a secular Ataturk. Its a defeatist mentality to worship those who were hanging by straws as oppose to those who brought the glory in real terms. The two men were poles apart, Islamist Vs secularist. Sorry to burst your bubble from outside, the impression of Ataturk is of some one who made his country a sidekick of western civilization, far from being a pain the backside. Having said that, todays Turkey under current leadership is moving in right direction. That why its heartening to see that Turks have resisted this secular coup with full force.

Reading Quran, praying 5 times are individual acts, they are not related how the state should work. That is where the Islamic socialism or as they say "Sharia" (way of life) comes into play. It is the most misunderstood concept or shall I say, a deliberate confusion created around it. The best way to understand it, its to look and study how the first state in Madina functioned.

Good explanation! Appreciated!

Turks were an empire when they had non secular people at helm, reduced to mere puppets of west by seculars who followed.

Why dont you explain to me out of your wisdom as to what a so called "Islamist" was doing sitting in the lap of yanks, who mind you wont spare any efforts to smoke out real Islamists working for political Islam in their respective regions, and his so called "Islamist" followers will coup for protecting Turkey "secular" credentials?

We in Pakistan can suss this bullsh|t from million miles, just because of what we have been through in past decade or so.

Bro if you had read Ottoman history you would have known that the non secular Ottomans had capitulated to the west and had it not been for Ataturk, Turkey as we know it today would not even exist. (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a0/TreatyOfSevres_(corrected).PNG)

Izmir would be Smyrna (Greek), Ararat would be Armenian, Edirne would be Bulgarian. Only a small portion of Northern Anatolia was being given to the Turks as their homeland. The rest would have been divided amongst their neighbours. So this point is a bit nonsensical to make. Granted that everyone should respect the democratic will of the Turkish people and if that means Erdogan then so be it, but one should not engage in intellectual dishonesty in order to belittle the "opposition". The seculars have played a large part in not only making sure that Turks never became a colonized people, they also made Turkey the strongest nation in the Muslim world financially and industrially.

You should stop learning Turkey from foreign propaganda media channels, with rhetoric slogans and labels.

And yet this is well and good in all western media. They (USA, France, Germany etc…) are extremely sad coup's failure.

Glory and prosperity to Turkey. Immense courage to Turkish people.

Both Suleiman The Magnificent and Atatürk are our heroes. One made made the Empire reach its highest zenith and the other saved us from becoming second hand humans in our own heartland. I love and respect both of their memories ( but I worship neither), and any Turk that has a shred of respect and mercy would do the same

And yet this is well and good in all western media. They (USA, France, Germany etc…) are extremely sad coup's failure.
so true. There was piece in Fox News titled something like :Turkey Lost Its Last Hope...or something like that.
Im happy those assholes were left with only thier limp dicks in their hand and their failed fantasies in the other

Sultan Suleiman is overrated as fuckk. Selim the Grim was the man with ballz of steel(if you look past his whole anti-shia policies he is a pretty nice guy :).
