Turkey pavilion raises eyebrows at Jordan arms fair

The Turkish pavilion at Jordan's Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX), a biennial arms fair, has attracted the attention of many participants at the event.
Sadik Yamac of the firm Havelsan, which is specialized in "smart" technology for military applications, said his company was keen to take part in the mega-event to boost its presence in the region and the Islamic world.
Yamac noted that Havelsan was currently working on the development of aviation systems and security screening equipment.
Anil Karel, deputy general manager of Nurol Makina, stressed his company's desire to bolster its relations with Jordan and other companies participating in the event.
Nurol Makina, which manufactures a wide range of military vehicles, has worked in the military defense field for the past 35 years, he said.
Other Turkish defense companies taking part in the exhibition include ASELSAN, Transvaro, Roketsan and Transvaro.
On Tuesday, Jordan's King Abdullah II opened the fair's tenth edition, which is showcasing state-of-the-art defense and security technology.
This year's exhibition drew as many as 371 defense firms from 41 countries, according to SOFEX Director Amer al-Tabbaa.
Defense ministers and senior military officials from 52 countries are also attending this year's event.
