Skiers compete in World Snow Day contests at Naltar valley

NALTAR: A skier in action during the World Snow Day contest held here on Monday.
GILGIT: The world snow day 2020 was celebrated here at the Naltar valley of Gilgit, Baltistan on Sunday which was aimed at promoting winter tourism potential in the region.

The event was jointly organized by Pakistan Airforce (PAF) and Ski Federation of Pakistan. Both male and female skiers participated in the event held at Naltar ski slopes. Children also took part in the competitions including various categories of skiing.

The skiers said these activities would provide them opportunities to play winter games internationally and it would helpful to build good image of the country abroad.

The national winter competitions including skiing, ice hockey, ice skating competitions were held at Naltar recently in which players from across the country participated.

Meanwhile the Ice Hockey Championship season 2 concluded at Altit, Hunza on Sunday. Four boys and two girls teams participated in the competitions.

Hidden Paradise team emerged as champion in the mens events after defeating Vista Hotel. In the women’s teams’ competition, Jill Band defeated Altit SCARF to win the championship.

Sunail Suko was declared player of the season for scoring 12 goals.

INTERNATIONAL SKIERS ARRIVE IN PAKISTAN TO PARTICIPATE IN SKI RACES AT MALAM JABBA

03 February, 2020:
36 international skiers from across the Globe arrived in Pakistan to participate in different categories of international ski races at the captivating Malam Jabba Ski Resort.
It is indeed a landmark event as 36 international skiers from nine countries including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Canada, Greece, Tajikistan, Timor, Turkey, Ukraine and United Kingdom will be participating in the FIS races on the slopes of enchanting ski resort. These skiers will be racing in slalom and giant slalom categories of Malam Jabba International Alpine Ski Cup and CAS International Karakoram Alpine Ski Cup. 63 national skiers from various regions and ski associations of the country would also be seen in action during these events. Competing in the FIS races against the highly ranked skiers of the world would provide an excellent opportunity to Pakistani athletes to showcase their talent at international level and learn from their competitors’ experience.

To mark this momentous occasion, Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan has also released an exciting promo, highlighting the electrifying and thrilling experience of this sport. Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan, in collaboration with Pakistan Air Force is earnestly working for the promotion of winter sports in the country and holding such events would not only boost the tourism industry in the magnificent mountains of Pakistan but also help in projecting a positive image of the country all over the world.

Skiing, hiking and concerts draw crowd to Galiyat Snow Festival

The three-day festival was held in Nathiagali and clearly everyone had an icy blast

The three-day Galiyat Snow Festival concluded on Monday with thrilling activities including jeep and bike rallies in the scenic Nathiagali and other picturesque spots.

Organised by Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and Galiyat Development Authority (GDA), the festival showcased skiing, snow-tubing, trekking, biking, snow hiking, bonfire, tug-of-war, snow football, camping, archery competitions, food stalls, snow cartoons, jeep and bike rallies and other activities.

More than 30 jeep racers and 25 motorcyclists took part in the rallies from Church Park in Nathiagali to Dongagali and enjoyed the race on the white snow. The racers then came back to Nathiagali from Dongagali.

Some of the tourists and lovers of snow games also participated in archery, snow-tubing, zip-lining and other activities at Church Pak. Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Industries Abdul Karim Khan was chief guest on the occasion.

Officials of TCKP and Abbottabad administration, GDA Director Raza Habib and others were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Karim Khan said that provincial government had taken solid steps to promote tourism in the province and attract tourists to the scenic spots.

He later gave away keys of vehicles for tourists and bike squad to the GDA authorities to facilitate tourists and visitors during their stay in Galiyat.

The vehicles and bikes were provided by the World Bank under the Economic Revitalisation project for KP and erstwhile Fata to promote tourism in the province.

The participants of various competitions were also given shields and prizes for their excellent performance in different activities held simultaneously in Nathiagali, Dongagali, Ayubia, Khanispur and Mushkpuri Top.

More than 100 participants from across the country showed their skills in skiing, snow-tubing, trekking, biking, snow hiking, bonfire, tug-of-war, snow football, camping, Vlog, archery competitions, food stalls, snow cartoons, jeep and bike rallies and other activities.

Food and night music were also part of the gala, which added colours to the event. Famous singers and artists including Laila Khan performed and enthralled the audience.
