Reading the title of this thread I thought it was about zardari and nawaz not-so-sharif.

Man what can i say. i had two friends at varsity. both belonged to these happie clappies christian group - they believe snakes do not harm them. Every other weekend, they would go into the hills searching and find these snakes and hold them around their necks - without any hands holding them. they believed that the power of their lord protected them. well, it turned out he brought a puff adder and put it in his closet.
my friend and i went searching for drafting grid; by chance opened closet - this mother of a mean thing is looking at me. blxm, i closed the door. We found 2 more snakes in his room and we got the hell out.
that afternoon, he starts laughing that we were chicken etc etc.
guess what at 4pm, he comes by holding his hand - 2 sets of puncture marks - take me to the hosptal been bitten.
man, immediate tying down of the arm and getting the bleeding started. Puff adder poison is extremely lethal - it destroys muscle totally. that evening went to see him. he is a big man over 2.1m; entire left side was purple like a plum; body had puffed up on that side from side of head down to toes - 2-3x.
He was lucky they did not have to amputate his arm.
We get back and plan kicks in to get rid of all his snakes.. that was a mother of an exercise.

Think my friend learnt his lesson. of course not. he does a few odds and ends including working at a croc farm where the manager gets chowed down by one of the crocs. Now runs the largest export business in the country breeding and exporting all these dangerous snakes world wide.

Is it true that the Black Mamba actively hunts?

It can outrun a human being as well.

We have many snakes species and many myths regarding them in Sindh.

I find them both fascinating and scary in equal measure.

often see sea snakes that get caught up in fishermen nets and they just dump them on the beach, can be spotted quite often struggling and at end of life early mornings.. almost wanted to help one this one time but then I remembered sea snakes are super venomous.

they're also beautiful and graceful in a strange way.

@denel as you can tell people aren't educated about the benefits of snakes. And this is a common misunderstanding about a lot of the wildlife there sadly. There's a lot of wildlife in Pakistan that needs to be preserved and for very good reasons too...sadly it is ignored due to ignorance.

There are a lot of different snakes in Pakistan ranging from boas, cobras, python, and even sea snakes!
Definitely a list of these would be excellent.

Not sure if we have snake enthusiasts in Pakistan. We mostly just kill them when we come across them. Don’t know the types. Cobra is famous here though. Also snake charmers were found in abundance about 20 years ago, but is now a dying profession. You’ll find one every once in a while. Maybe more so in rural areas.
Dont kill snakes, they rarely harm human since only a very small percentage of them is actually venomous, the venomous ones only attack if threatened and even then not every bite is harmful since there are so called ''dry bites'' too. Lastly even if they inject venom it mostly doesnt even kill humans.

But their benefits are enormous, they are natural pest control and essential for the eco system, you killing snakes is pretty much like killing bees, its tilting the balance of the environment and ultimately harming yourself in the long run.

yes they are super venomous.

That reminds me, i was swimming in local dam, right after heavy rains. saw a few snakes swimming, man i got the hell out.

.
Spectackled Cobra
Russell's Viper
Common Krait
Saw Scaled Viper
Yellow billed sea Snake

In Pakistan Anti-Venom is not widely available hence People kill snakes whenever they see them even if they arnt poisonous. Before Badmouthing these people remember this is the same country where in some parts even rabies vaccine is not available.

yeah, I remember well the documentaries on them.

they really struggle on land, I seen so many, some were so close to the surf, gasping, breathing their last (probably got gills to get their oxygen from the water, not sure)

really wanted to help but was very wary of trying to be some kind of hero.. and die in like 3 minutes flat or whatever it is as a result lol

Have seen videos too. But it's caught in a net with lots of other fishes. What happens if it had attracked nearby fishes in the net in its fear? Then the fishes would have been poisoned.... How do the fishermen's separate those fishes? Man I just thought of it and damn afraid now.

yeah, I've thought about those things too.

brave brave folk, the fishermen, experts at that kind of thing

some days ago a bunch of them freed endangered olive ridleys that got caught in their nets, which was super nice, because those can be sold for a good sum to private "collectors" too, apparently.

exotic endangered species as pets just disgusts me, buy an Italian sports car itna paisa hai toh... don't mess with nature.
