Slum free india in five years

What rubbish actually. Where will all these low-skilled slum dwellers go? You expect them to suddenly start driving cars, living in plush apartments and doing bank jobs? Are you crazy?

These tricks have been tried in South American countries. Soon these highrise blocks will be either abandoned or turned into vertical slums - and people will live in even worse conditions than the original slums.

.
In 2004, Manmohan Singh had promised to make a Shanghai out of Mumbai in 5 years. Where is the promise now? One of the television ad perfectly suits Indian mentality. 'India - baatein kam, kam zyada karo'. (India - talk less, work more). That is the way to go.

hamare gujarat(India) me kahavat hain.
"Nishan chuk maaf, nahi maaf nichu nishan"- "missing target(aim) is forgivable but aiming 'lower' target(aim) is never forgivable."

Don't you think if we reduce slums to even 20% by this plan will be a great achivement.

i really like the saying you mentioned. yes india has taken a right step at the right time and aiming high is something that is important no doubt because even in thecase of failure it will help some percentage of people to raise their living standards. i hope india achieve their goal set for removing slums.

you are right as well, but not trying due to these obstacles is a bad idea, isnt it?

when you start it you will face difficulties/problems in the beginning or at the end but the govt will try to solve these problems and so on and ultimately they will be able to achieve their goal.

but if they also start some other projects like good standard affordable schools for the slum community children (voccational institutes for adults) and think about providing them jobs. a good option will be to hire the same population of slum to construct the new areas. but this is an immediate solution (temporary) and they require a permanent one. another important thing is health care, which is in my opinion very important.

i am right now based in a country where no one lives below average and this country was destroyed after WWII when pakistan and india has gained independence an look at them and us (pak and india) now. they had started from scatch with ecoomy down th drain and two big cities full of nuclear radiations and lots of people suffering from these radiations but at the moment they are world s second largest economy. look at the size of this country (approx equal to Pakistan in terms of area and have less population than Pakistan with more old people than young people present t the moment).

so my friend, i think trying is a better option than not trying due to some problems which others have faced while trying the same thing. it would be better if india (and pakistan both) try and learn from what south aerican countries have faced in that way the success rate will be very high.

regards

sincerely

If you want to get rid of slums - first start by running major literacy, vocational training and other educational programs in these areas.

Isolate the smart ones, and train them to be leaders and high-skilled workers.

Simply bulldozing their homes and relocating them into pigeonholes will only make things worse.

You are correct, unless we address the CAUSES of poverty, slums won't disappear. All we are doing here is shifting a problem out of plain sight -- a political gimmick. Just like recently in Vancouver Games 2010 where they are forcefully moving the homeless, drug addicts, prostitutes, etc out of the publics eye.

You want to reduce slums? Simple (or not so simple to implement) is to give suitable paying respectable jobs.

.
Its simply land-grab by builder mafia.

The truth is that the land on which Dharavi is sitting is the among the most expensive pieces of real estate on the earth. They want to make money by moving out these people and building highrise apartments and commercial buildings which they can sell and make a fortune from.

These slumdwellers will probably sell their new flats and move into new slums on the outskirts of Bombay where they will be even more jobless and hungry.

.
@SalmanNadeem: I totally agree with you..
I went to india in 2006 i still have some friends there and they were telling me about the people in slums that 'The government has given them flats but they prefer renting their flats and living in slum'
The GOI should try to change their thinking first beefore giving them an opportunity for a better life....As i have learned....something acheived with hardwork and dedication is revered but things achieved without them are never taken care of...
I hope you get my point

The problem is that these people are too stupid. They don't have the brains to manufacture or innovate which will make them a valuable contributor to the GDP.

Some of them might be smart, and they can be isolated and trained. But the vast majority have depressed IQs and incapable of competing on the global level.

.
Still mate you cannot ignore them.
Just a rouge example...
Tequila(SPIRIT) my favorite is made from roots of a plant whose branches are used as a source of fuel in mexico. They were not used as a source on making tequila for a long time guess how much they lost on that...
Moral of the story.....
Even the most depressed and incapable can be used as a mouth watering product...

.
GOOD my best wishes with india and slums.i wanna see there is no slum in sauth asia in 2015.

. .
I don't think humans and tequila are comparable.

India should either go in for countrywide eugenics, or reconcile itself to a secondary role in the world.

The fact is that majority of these slum dwellers will continue to drag the country down because they don't have the talent to create valuable goods and services.

More like the rich are dragging the poor down..........excellent idea by the indian govt and i hope you pull it off.

if the slum dwellers can not become productive citizens (in your opinion) what should you do, i mean you can not let them die or kill them, they are your country men and above that they are human beings.

my friend, there is a very famous saying

when there is a will there is a way

since india has gathered its will to do the job they will find a way, dont worry and keep faith in your people.

Yes, there is a way - sterilization of people with lower than average IQ.

These people should not be allowed to have children. Only those citizens who have average or above-average capabilities should be given reproductive rights.
