What's new

Slackistan the Movie.

People are wearing western clothing. only english music is played. no part of pak culture seems to be portrayed in the trailer. heck look at the name of the movie, isn't it doing a very good PR job of Pakistan, does it?

I don't expect anything good out of this movie. seriously, seems like another attempt to prove how 'advanced' and 'modern' they're to the westerners.

Firefighter,

Sometimes its good to understand the context before commenting. The movie specifically highlights the life of the privileged in Pakistan. The movie shows their issues and problems.

Pakistan is not about just Islam. All sorts of stuff goes on and different mindsets live in this country.

This particular film is about another angle on Pakistani life. One that deals with what the mod squad in Pakistan is dealing with. It may not represent all of Pakistan, but the fun of it is that it represents a part of Pakistan which does not have to be the same as the rest.

Watch the movie. You may actually like it for what it is. I look forward to doing the same.

Hold your horses.... i thought its a movie!! how can you convict them..... have you ever seen Pakistani punjabi films? holly wood movies? are those for real?
If we start convicting people on alcoholism than we need to turn cities into jail!!! :azn:
I'm surprised to see your surprise at alcohal consumption in Pakistan..... very unhealthy habit though....

Pakistan's ideology was a state which will be home land for majority muslims, a place where they cannot be discriminated based on their religous affiliations, or ethnicity and further growing into a modern state.
Anyhow, I'm more worried about growing corruption and declining state of economy rather than a subject of movie or unearthing the historic ideology of Pakistan.

BATMAN listen : I am a bit straight forward , I think if something is wrong then it is Wrong !!! it must not be done at all.

And Alcoholism is in hiding for now in Pakistan , if you want a great future for this Nation do not Let it come to the Streets but the Question is -- IF---;)

Alcohol is haram and banned by law so there is no excuse and i think they must be Punished balki inki " Litar parade honi chahiye "

I even think Cigarettes should not be displayed on the shops but they Must be kept under the counters and in the storage and must be sold on when needed basis.

I have once saw a Punjabi movie trailer that was about 6 years back , i think those must be Banned too...

If you say bro that one evil is happening in the streets so we should allow the second one too.. i am afraid i will say NO!!

Corruption must be fought against but alcohol too because i dont want Pakistan to " Assman main gira khajoor main atka "

Wrong is wrong, but you must admit, in the high city life, this stuff happens regardless of religion. The movie looks like it's made to portray the high urban life, not the general image of Pakistan. Or you could say, the Clash between the high-liberal life and the poor-conservative life in Pakistan, as they did show beggars and broken down schools in the trailer.

i agree with you, this movie look is only showing how desperate some Elite class Pakistanis are trying to become western!

Where's the Pakistani culture? Where's the decency?

do you know how much affect movies and television have on the mind? a good example is propaganda and how it can easily change a persons view on a certain issue, and the same applies to movies that promote corruption (ie Alcohol)!

When kids see it in movies they think its "cool", and they end up trying it, then in the very end they become addicts!

.
that's the whole point of the flick......it's an illustration of how some of the elite of sleepy Isloo live worlds away from the lower/middle class segments of society

they DO wear western clothing. they DO drink imported booze. they DO party like there's no tomorrow. they DO cruise around the boulevards aimlessly in Mercedes-Benz S500s and Bimmers.

they numb themselves to the political developments of the country; because they have (inherited) economic interests within and outside the country ---which enables them to live rather comfortably

the whole point of the movie is that these people are Pakistanis, and they are proud Pakistanis
......but to the outside eye, they resemble happy-go-lucky and financially well off youth who prefer to "kick it" and do their dining room get-togethers. Worlds away from the people who slave themselves all day from dawn till dusk just to be able to afford sustenance and a few liters of petrol.
So you're basically saying that this movie serves as a legitimization tool of the elite class and their ways of life?

I find your not so thought out statement rather paradoxical. You can still be a Proud Pakistani and do all of things that the ultra elite do i.e. party, booze, dance clubs, etc.

I mean what kind of a message is it going to send to the middle and lower classes who look up to the elites?

I know very well how these people live as I come from priviledged family as well, heck my cousins drive S500s and imported bimmers from dubai, yet i can tell you they have lost the moral conscience and direction. They ironically claim to be proud Pakistanis too, yet do things unconsciously against the establishment and the country.

Blain2,

I understand where you're coming from but I must say that the name and theme of the movie cannot be patriotic.

I understand the movie isn't about Islam but Pakistan. But you cannot deny the Islam's role in shaping of Pakistani culture and society.

I come from a Business and Marketing background and in my assessment of the trailer the name is not very appropriate, secondly the theme is very questionable as it wrongly depicts and markets the elites.

Don't worry, I will watch it once it comes out and i will post my analysis on this forum.

.
it can send whatever message ---depends on how the message is taken yaar.

like i said --the movie gives another picture. A picture of Pakistan outsiders (and many insiders) don't know about. It isn't "showing off" a culture of drinking or partying in any kind of endorsing manner.

It just shows....

(like most forms of art)

how you interpret it is your own business

Ultra low class would be better ....

Listen everyone clearly According to the constitution of Pakistan the Alcohol is Banned so is its advertisement and makes me think The this movie is a clear violation of the national constitution .

These guys who are " openly drinking" in a movie which would be watched by the Youth of Islamic republic of Pakistan should be brought to justice and must be Punished & the movie Must cut these scenes too because it can lead Pakistani youth to the use of Alcohol .

These " Sharabis " do not represent our National image we must weed out these " evils " from our society and not let them drink and feel proud of going against the National constitution and making fun of it.. .

" Pakistan. Since 1977, only non-Muslim groups such as Christians, Zoroastrians and Hindus are permitted to apply for alcohol permits in Pakistan. The monthly allotment usually depends on income but it is typically 100 bottles of beer or 5 bottles of liquor.

Enforced by Pakistan's Islamic Ideology Council, the ban is strictly enforced. "

BTW its not a feature film but a tele film.

Kaash hamara imaan itna kamzor na hota kay kisi aur ko peetay dekh kar yeh samajhtay hum kay ban gaey hum khud sharabee.

The national constitution also guarantees minorities their rights. When those are violated it is a far more egregious violation of the constitution than when 10 or 20 people drink booze in the privacy of their homes. I don't condone it, but I don't waste my time condemning people's private actions either. To him his acts, to me mine. What concerns me more is when there is a forced violation of someone's rights... I'll join you in protest when I see one of these sharabis holding an innocent person down and forcing a bottle of Jack down his throat. Until then, I'll worry more about the mullahs who are destroying thousands of lives by indoctrinating innocent children and causing them to wreak havoc upon society.

Coming to the movie, it seems pretty cool. Definitely beats the the two ends of the current spectrum, i.e. the Zakir Naik Indoctrination Show and the tasteless Lollywood crap. I'd love to see it.

Bad men are always bad, good men are always good. Alcohol can not change them.

But it should not be very available but limited with license like here. Otherwise young people are always prone to abuse it.

. .
The movie looks boring, nothing special except some rich western wannabe Pakistanis getting wasted with alcohol! Might as well watch some national geographic documentary about monkey's!

Hey.. I just saw this thread, don't wanna comment anything on the story but I do hope it turns out to be a good production. The main character of the film, the boy from 0:17 to 0:18, Shahhbaz Shigri, is my cousin. I think he has the leading role but I am not sure.

Definitely an interesting flick. You can already tell. Well filmed. Groovy location. Beautiful people. Interesting contrasts that compel thought. More than a party film going on.

Kids with money are going to go see it. I'm sure there's a buzz. That pays. If it gets the right backing here in the states it would work too. I'd definitely see it. People here are interested in seeing an Islamic country as it IS not as some government censors or mullahs want us to see it so there's a hunger. For those from there it's nothing new. For the rest of us it sure as hell is absolutely new.

I've caught hints of that whole scene here at def.pk but this is designed to drive it home.

Looking forward to it...for sure.

Thanks.:usflag:

You should also jail or sentence to life all those people who act in 'action' films and kill people. Sheesh people, grow up. Some of you on here are just too young to comment.
