International coalition officials say the insurgents who attacked a British military base in Afghanistan Friday, killing two U.S. Marines, were dressed in U.S. Army uniforms and were armed with automatic rifles, rocket propelled grenade launchers and suicide vests.

The coalition said in a statement Sunday the 15 militants were organized into three teams and “executed a well-coordinated attack” against the airfield on Camp Bastion in Helmand province.

The alliance say the attackers destroyed six Harrier jets and “significantly damaged” two more. The militants also destroyed three coalition refueling stations and damaged six aircraft hangars.

International troops killed 14 of the insurgents and wounded one, who is in custody. Earlier reports said 18 militants died in the attack.

In addition to the two U.S. Marines killed in the assault, eight military members and one civilian contractor were wounded.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A spokesman for the militant group said Saturday the attack was in response to a film produced in the U.S. that insults the Prophet Muhammad and because Britain's Prince Harry is serving at the base.

Officials say Prince Harry, who is third in line to the British throne, was never in danger. He is deployed at the base as a helicopter pilot. The Taliban has vowed to kill him.

Around 8 Americans have died since yesterday and hope to hear some more good news because after the film and America not doing anything against the maker and producer they have asked for more trouble for their soldiers in Afghanistan and it could also result in some sort of attack in America America by doing these kind of actions is constantly inviting trouble and will soon face the biggest disaster of its history

The US doesnt fight to win wars anymore, it fights to be politically correct and wil the "hearts and minds".lol.

The soldiers have one hand tied behand their back and the enemy follows no rules. If this was ww2 times, we would have seen less of this politically correct rubbish.

It all comes down to how important it is to win a war. Japan in ww2 was far more important than all the conflicts that came after.

And these Afghans are not the best warriors in the world. This is a big misconception.

american soldiers cant win becuse they are fed up with meaningless war where the have put their lives on the risk esp the war which has no end to it, they dont see any meaning to kill innocent people on their government orders anymore

Which is why the US is investing in unmanned tech. These are not really wars anymore, more like policing: doing patrols, finding and destroying banned weapons, etc.

The US has probably eliminated more high ranking terrorists in Pakistan than in Afghan, without any convntional soldiers.

Anyhow the 11 year Afghan conflict has started a dramatic change in war tactics, tehnology, and equipment. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

ISI and CIA should coperate more with eachother to curb such attacks... Pakistan's base also came under-attack .... :agree:

i think they are at cross purposes with each other at the moment :)
