Six militants killed in attack on Bannu police station
At least six suicide bombers were killed and two policemen injured as militants attacked a police station early on Thursday on the outskirts of Bannu town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to officials,
militants fired rockets and hurled hand grenades on the police station, some 12 kilometers from the Bannu town.
Police claimed that the
attackers were suicide bombers who were killed in the shootout.
As per details, the attack was launched at about 5:30 a.m. when heavily armed suicide bombers attacked Miriyan police station in Bannu.
The militants wanted to incur a huge loss to the police by entering inside the police station but the
alert cops retreated their attack by forceful retaliatory action.
District Police Officer Nisar Tanoli said that attack on Maryan Police station was successfully encountered and six militants were killed.
He said that five suicide bombers have been killed by the security forces during the encounter while the sixth blew himself up when he was holed up inside the police station.
Six suicide bombers were shot dead during the counter-attack while two police personnel were injured in the incident.
The attack was followed by a fierce exchange of firing between both sides.
Heavy contingent of police and
army reached the spot and cordoned off the area.
The outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the suicide mission on the Maryan police station.
