Singapore’s demographic lesson for China

Somebody wants to end up like Bangladesh.

In fact, with China going up the second tier level that is service sector and design/ innovation. China do not need a large labour forces.

Do you know last year 7million new university graduate and many until now still can't find a job? Many end up as nanny, odd job labourer or others.

And we got people advocating more population?

China is no singapore. It has a 1.3billion population. I would more like to see China population go down at 1.1billion. It's more quality and manageable.

What they need is skill development at higher level. Moving up the value chain. Trust me people in technology business in China find it really hard to get good people.

Not very sustainable. Many grad can't get job. This is quite bad for a growth of a country. This year maybe 7.5million new grad.

Again, as Jlaw said, you can see the results of low fertility in Japan, Singapore and Korea.

And the challenge of China will be ever stark, because you will face a bigger problem.

I think it's much easier for East Asia to tackle this problem than India to cope with low-quality overpopulation. Youth without jobs, education, sanitation and access to higher life standards, is like a time bomb.
@Nihonjin1051 I don't see any problem with Japan not having introduced immigration like US. They are losing a domestic market but they have never lost their competitiveness.

That is what people used to say about China in the 70s, and look where China is now!

India was, admittedly asleep. It was not focused on development and more involved in petty politics. But today there is a sense among politicians that development is what is most desired by people, and that will earn them stable votes. Modi who won the elections for Central Government, essentially won on the sole promise of bringing development. It was perhaps the first time in history when not much of caste politics and religion was used for votes. The whole agenda was simply development.

So we took time to awaken, but we are wide awake now.

I am very skeptical about the intention of this Nihonjin and how much love he have towards his motherland.

I support immigration fully. I hope the entire einstein type, Larry page flock to Singapore. These people will raise our quality, set up shop to create job..etc bring a lot of benefit.

However 99% of the time, immigration in developed land is use to suppress wages, stir up racial discord to mask class struggle, create property ponzi....etc.

Small Country like Japan need to manage her population. Best, low fertility crashes her real estate, so that young couple are not indebt in order to breed, so that the greedy landlord can go fcuk themselves...etc.

Those who advocate mass migration... hehe....... I call them traitors

Then why he lost in some local elections? More failures in local elections are expected when his promise cannot be attained in the short term

Time for Chinese to claim for more political rights,
We do have politcal rights. Pointless, we already pointed the problems, the respond was 'we will bath the keris with chinese blood'.

Talk about winning political rights from Islamo, they will shout jihad and next moment start pogroms against infidels. Kuan Yew tried that.

He lost only 1 local election, and that was because the local candidate was very popular due to his anti-corruption efforts. Something like Xi Jinping.

Those were the local elections of our capital, a place where people are relatively well off, and want cleaner government.

But educated Chinese will mostly choose Shanghai or Shenzhen rather than Singapore. When I transferred in Changi Airport, I was totally shocked by the labourers in the airport.

I would advise all the Chinese in Malaysia to simply return to China, with all the capital and belongings that they can take.

I am deeply familiar with Malaysia's situation and I find no hope for you, I'm sorry to say.

Welcome educated Chinese immigrate back to mainland China.

Than why do we have a shortage in manufacturing? Why do these companies need to hire low skilled Vietnamese? These grads need to toughen up a bit. Work in these factories temporarily and keep looking. North American grads face the same thing. They too work in other jobs not related to their field.
I digress. My reason for a large population is you need it for wars and economics. Imagine the potential Chinese market with 1.5b people....and remember once indian population is greater than China, they will look to expand northward.

True, market access is perhaps the biggest strategic advantage that any country possesses over her rivals.

Also, I agree, to hold any territory, one must have loyal citizens in sufficient amount, which you don't have in your western territories.

You think so easy, not every chinese is millionaire or master degree. Some already too old, used to this place. NEP and corruption is not the main problem, it how the racial politics in Malaysia is played. It can turn sour really fast. In a sense, Democracy is terrible for racial harmony.

Kuan Yew system is not sustainable. 30 years ago, the Qinghua, Peking Uni flock to Singapore and find here heaven. Kuan Yew continue to flood us with migrants, depressing our salary so much that today, top PRC no longer come here.

Hindus are still coming.

Lower salary is could be ok. France have lower disposable income but people keep going there. Freedom, decent landed house, car, long holidays, free healthcare and schools...etc, all make France attractive. Kuan Yew did not want anything to make people happy. He flood us so much people that we are now living in cage, paying 30 years mortgages, working long hours, having very little job securities.

Next Kuan Yew tried poison us by astronomical healthcare cost. In short, Singaporeans are one pay check to bankruptcy.

Kuan Yew then use all the monies he took from us and gamble in wall streets, loses them all.

Below is our sovereign wealth fund loses.
