He means that the US should work and compete constructively with China for the better of the world, instead of engaging in a zero-sum game competition which will ensure China as an enemy. The US and China are rivals but not enemies; they can compete constructively and contribute to the world.

That has always been Singapore's foreign position since the previous century.

And this is why we are an advocate of US presence in the region, so that China can integrate peacefully into the world instead of being bitter to the rest of the world because of the 'national humiliation' in the last 100+ years. A bitter China isn't good for both China and the rest of the world.

The "national humiliation" could not be interpreted to be bitter to colonial powers who ever bullied China when her was weak, it's a kind of introspection at nation level. This spurs Chinese to try best effort to struggle, essentially a spiritual fuel to mobilize the work force of all classes toward the same goal of making China rising again. Introspection is a critical trait of Chinese culture, a commendable virtue of Confucian scholar, the major spiritual force driving the development of modern China.

Your comment is stupid. Respect n support are to be earned, not demanded. Both the national and cultural interest of mainstream Singapore are with china, who is our biggest trade partner. They truly don't get what or how any of this works. They just focus on dreams. Dreaming is free...and you can get happy results as you want with no hard work put in . Thus they cling to any projection that verbatim uses their corrupt govt data....with no pause to think is the underlying data really credible in first place given the consumption patterns that actually materialise for everyone else to see.

You see when you impose complete one-party system (like BD now has), it better deliver the results (like say CPC has economically and somewhat geopolitically too)....otherwise it is just a squandering of autocracy....because there is not even an excuse that "opposition in power" ruined something etc.

Very true especially the part about the BD elites grabbing a lot of the pie. I work with a BD co-worker and she told me what you said. Given the GDP per capita of BD is around $1700 USD/year she said that if you made 50k CAD/year it's not enough to truly live a good life in Dhaka comparable to Canada. You need a lot more.
