KARACHI:
Even though the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) may have taken a great leap forward in Sindh by gaining the support of Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, the chairman of the Sindh United Party, it is still being given the cold shoulder from Dr Niaz Kalani, the acting chairman of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM).

He said that PML-N has not contacted, directly or indirectly, Sindhi nationalists for support in the elections. Kalani added that the nationalists themselves would not cooperate with the PML-N, as it is engaging in what he referred to as “the politics of federalism”.

“Supporting the PML-N is out of the question as we follow the ideology of Saeen GM Syed, who fought for the freedom of Sindh. We will never form an alliance with any federalist party,” he told PPI. “We do not accept the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan as it does not give the right of secession to federating units and we do not believe in taking part in the politics of elections,” he said.

To a question about the recent alliance between PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and the chairman of the Sindh United Party, Syed Jalal Mahmood Shah, who is the grandson of GM Syed, the JSQM chairman said, “Yes, Jalal Mahmood Shah is the grandson of Saeen GM Syed. But he has never followed the ideology of his grandfather. Gaining his support does not mean that Nawaz has gained the support or even the sympathies of the Sindhi nationalists.”

When asked about Mumtaz Bhutto, who disbanded the Sindh National Front and joined PML-N, on the grounds that Sharif had supported his provincial autonomy programme, Kalani said, “Sindh is not a province. It is a state and a nation. I reiterate that we believe in the freedom of Sindh.”

He laid down certain conditions to talking to Nawaz. “We will hold a dialogue with him if he agrees that Pakistan is a multi-nation country and Sindh is a state and Sindhis constitute a nation. If this happens, we too would recognise Punjab as the separate nation and talk to Sharif,” he said.

When asked if JSQM could achieve its goals just by holding demonstrations and rallies, Kalani said that his party is creating national awareness amongst the Sindhi nation. “We know this is a very long struggle, but we will not give up.”

To a question about the unification of nationalist organisations, especially the different groups of Jeay Sindh, Dr Niaz Kalani said, “We all have decided not to oppose each other as we all are followers of Saeen GM Syed’s ideology. We will improve our attitudes towards each other and create an atmosphere of mutual cooperation.”

Kalani said that because of Ramazan, his group had stopped holding demonstrations and asking for an investigation into death of JSQM chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi. “We have already announced that we will hold a big demonstration in Hyderabad after Ramadan.” He said the Pakistan Peoples’ Party government has shown criminal negligence with regard to the investigation into Qureshi’s death.

JSQM feeling the heat.....as it going to be marginalized bu the induction of GM Syed's own grandson into an alliance of a federated party i.e. PMLN. Good to see a federated party doing a hard work to woe sindhi nationalist away from sepration and merging them into the Pakistani mainstream politics.

Keep it up PMLN....Keep it up Nawaz Sharif:cheers:

Garnering strength: Hamida Khuhro among new PML-N inductions

KARACHI:
Thursday saw the induction of more politicians and influential personalities from Sindh in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, along with the formation of an electoral alliance.

Former education minister and historian Dr Hamida Khuhro, along with her brother former MPA Masood Khuhro, announced to join the PML-N, following a meeting with party chief Nawaz Sharif at the residence of former chief minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Jatoi, who heads a committee formed by the PML-N to pursue different personalities and parties, said that former provincial minister and chief of the Panhwar tribe Sardar Manzoor Panhwar had also joined their party along with some influential people of Jacobabad district.

Others who joined the PML-N include former bureaucrat Shafique Khoso, Kheehal Das Kohistani of Jamshoro district and Sardar Hasnain Chandio.

Sources in the party said a meeting was recently held between the leaders of the PML-N and former provincial minister and nazim of Kashmore district Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari.

They added that Mazari is also likely to announce joining the PML-N along with Dr Sohrab Sarki, who served as minister for inter-provincial coordination in the Sindh government.

Meanwhile, the PML-N and the Sindh United Party (SUP) signed a joint declaration on Thursday to form an electoral alliance to contest the upcoming general elections.

The declaration was presented by PML-N Central Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jagra at a local hotel following a meeting between PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and SUP President Jalal Mehmood Shah.

While signing the declaration, Nawaz said his party would defend the territorial and geographical boundaries of Sindh, not because of its election alliance with the SUP, but because the majority of people are against the division of the province.

The PML-N chief said his party was seeking to join hands with political parties in order to work together to get rid of corrupt politicians and strengthen democracy.

Jalal Mehmood Shah of the SUP reiterated the need to get rid of the corrupt politicians.

“Ye guddi, gudday ka khel nahee hai (This is not child’s play), one should work with full devotion and enthusiasm to run the government,” he said.

The seven-point declaration resolved to provide maximum autonomy to provinces in the ambit of the Constitution and vowed to protect the territorial and geographical boundaries of Sindh.

The Head honch of a party 2000 strong is trying to act like he's some big shot, it's almost too sad a spectacle to see............Get some backbone JSQM and please close down shop, your ideology is almost as outdated as GM Syed himself. It never gained mass popularity and never will.

Good to see a federated party doing a hard work to woe sindhi nationalist away from sepration and merging them into the Pakistani mainstream politics.

Its a good move by PMLN to bring the nationalist parties in mainstream, hopefully will not back stab by asking them to boycott elections and go in elections themselves alone-like they did in 2008 elections.... worth mentioning that the damage done to Balochistan reside with PMLN who betrayed the principled parties to boycott elections and themselves contested.

secondly the moving away from separatist ideology of the nationalist parties is not true at all- Nawaz sharif has allied with them on their terms. but probably that was the only way to get them in main stream politics- but atleast its a step forward. hope its not a corruption alliance in essence, which I think is main feature of PMLN politics.

If you follow PTI and Imran khan, you will know PTI policy of reconciliation on Balochistan... you may disagree with that, but if you insist on remaining silent as in your mind you think you are some self righteous person, deactivate your account, cause we dont have time for the nonsensical personal attacks. thank you and good bye.

you might want to try PTI video encyclopedia- it may help you understand things better.

The statement from JSQM is a joke. Even in last elections where Pmln performed badly in Sindh, JSQM votes were even less than Pmln's
