How close are Urdu and Arabic? The languages belong to two different family groups but the Urdu language contains many Arabic originating words which entered Urdu via Persian changing the pronunciation. In this episode, Meena, an Arabic speaker from Iraq, and Ayesha, an Urdu speaker from Pakistan, challenge each other with a list of words and sentences.
Modern Standard Urdu is a Persianized and standardised register language of the Hindustani language. It is the official national language and lingua franca of Pakistan. For centuries prior to the British colonization, Persian was widely used as a second language in the Indian subcontinent and has had a huge impact on the languages of the region.
Arabic is a Central Semitic language and the official language of Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Chad, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, Tanzania (Zanzibar), Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Arabic is also the liturgical language of Islam.

pure urdu was a mixture of several arabic persian and turkish words and those who understand poetic urdu can easily understand arabic, but it is very unfortunate due to negligence of our media and our governments that poetic urdu is slowly diminishing, i am sure many of us are even not aware the true meaning of national anthem ....

The same idiocy,
like Pakistanis want to become Arab.

I think turkish has a lot more urdu words.

Urdu is like plate of biryani where chawals are the Persian and rest of ingredients from Turkish, Arabic and chicken or mutton is Hindustani.
