China industrial production rises 8.8% in May :china:
June 13, 2014

Reinforcing signs of stabilisation in the economy, China’s industrial production expanded at faster pace in May, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday.

The industrial added-value output rose 8.8 per cent in May from a year ago, accelerating 0.1 percentage points from the April figure, the NBS data showed.

Meanwhile, the value of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 13 basis points to 6.1503 against the US dollar in its central parity on Friday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.

In China’s foreign exchange spot market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 per cent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the US dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.

China's electric autos no longer inferior products

Electric vehicles produced by Chinese automakers are not inferior to foreign brands, said Li Lei, executive supervisor of first Qinghai Lake Electric Vehicle International Challenge Competition.

On the last day of the five-day competition, Li said domestic producers have localized the core technologies foreign electric automakers use.

"The fundamental natural resource for electric vehicles is lithium, of which one-third of the world's reserve is in Qinghai Lake. And their quantity and quality are remarkably envious to the foreign producers," Li said.

Li said many foreign producers have learned from domestic automakers, such as BYD, which has accumulated technology data from their long-time research.

"Although the industry develops late in China, Chinese electric vehicles are nothing inferior to foreign brands. It is slow over the first hurdle but will accelerate in middle and late course," Li said.

However, Li also said the electric vehicles are far from fully developed. The different recharging protocols are an example. If a charging system used for Audi cannot connect to a BMW, then it will be a waste, Li said.

He also warned of overlapping development of the industry, which may cause big surplus in the auto supply.

Despite these worries, he remains confident in the industry's growth, which he thinks will happen quickly.

Stabilization in Low Growth = Stuck in BAD ECONOMY FOREVER!

Thank you for helping US.

US will delay the nuke attack for a couple decade later.

Good to see the economic stabilisation of our partner, People's Republic of China. Good Luck !

Thank you for your information. Electronic vehicle will never be the inferior product whether China produce it or not. I am also an auto owner of electric(hybrid) vehicles - BYD QIN and I have another SUV - Haval H6.

If you check it out. You will find some amazing parameters.

Further more, I have served at Frech & Italia Automakers for years and our group has cooperate with JP. I know what the quality of vehicles.Just don't trust those cheap report abroad.

Domestic auto brands grow rapidly If you have ever watch the Beijing auto show 2014 then you can get the proof. My favorite brands are GW and BYD (which grow fastest in the new energy field).

Let's wait and see what will happen in the next 5 years in the auto market.

Are Chinese manufacturers still having issues building a reliable car engine? I have not seen any Chinese made gasoline cars that have 300+ hp

Reliable car engine is not a problem now, 4X big and 4X small manufacturers produce their own engines.
About gasoline cars with 300+ hp, as I know, domestic manufactures have no matured product to meet the need of customers or some domestic brand recognition issues. FAW has had V6, V8,V10,V12 engine technology sometime ago.
BTW, my new car - BYD QIN has a hybrid output power of 217 kw - 290.88 hp if I am not wrong. The car Accelerates very fast and it only need no more than 5.9 s to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h.

To be honest, currently, the problems that domestic manufacturers have to resolve quickly is the management issue especially the new product induction management/program management but that is not easy. Program experiences promote program management level. It is time consuming and huge money needed.

Straw based 3D printer filament will cost half the price of PLA

Published June 8, 2014 | By facundo

PLA (polylactic acid) is kinder to the environment than other plastics as it is derived from corn stalks and not fossil fuels. Now a Chinese company has invented another eco-friendly material – straw based plastic – made from rice and wheat stalks and can be used in 3D printing, without sacrificing price or performance.

rice-straw-3d-printing-material-1.jpg

The straw based plastic is made from dried crops straw, such as wheat straw, rice straw, corn stalk etc, mixed with plastic and plastic additives, using company’s patent pending technology.

Every year large amount of straw are generated from the production of crop plants such as wheat, rice, and cotton. In the past most of this biomass was burned resulting in air pollution and loss of a potential carbon feedstock for improving soil fertility. Due to these problems, straw burning in the field has been banned by the government.

Chinese company, Jiangsu Jinghe Hi-Tech Co.,Ltd, has developed a technology that can transfer crops straw into 3D printing material. The process started with shredding the straw to 1.5~2mm pieces. Then they mix the strawdust with polypropylene, adding silane coupling agent and ethylene bis(stearamide) as additives. The mixture is then extruded into granules using a twin screw extruder. After the transforming, the granules have even particle size and are more stable for further processing.

The plastic granules can be heated up to 160˜180° C for injection moulding. Using special filament extruders the company has turned these plastic granules into filament for 3D printers. The 3D printed object created using the straw based filament has the color of natural wood, and the texture of plant fiber on the surface. It has also nice surface finish and high strength.

According to Yan Wei, deputy general manager of Jinghe, the company has signed several cooperation agreement with villages in the area. In general, 1 ton of rice paddy produces 290 kg rice straw, currently the company pays the price of approximately 800-1000 RMB ($120~160) per ton for crops straw. Yan said this project has been supported by farmers. “This is a good way to get rid of straw wastes from our crops and still earn some income,” said Mr. Pu, a local farmer.

Compared with traditional petroleum-based plastic, Jinghe’s straw-based plastic has low production cost and fewer carbon emissions. According to the company, producing 14,000 tons of the straw-based plastic can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 22,400 tons every year.

The ABS raw material costs around 15,000 RMB ($2,400) per ton in the market. PLA, as a natural green material, has more complex production process and costs more, around 20,000 RMB ($3200). Yan said their straw-based plastic material only costs about 10,000 RMB ($1,600) per ton. After processing, the price of straw based filament for 3D printing will be only half of the current PLA filament price.

If the material can plummet in price, it will be sooner for 3D printers to be in every home, Yan said.

Currently the company can process around 7,000 tons of straw annually. Jinghe has already signed a 2 billion RMB ($320K) contract with Shantou city government to provide straw based plastics for producing toys for European market.
