Siachen pilferage scam: Army served final notice

NEW DELHI: After allegedly failing to cooperate with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army was served with a final notice to produce its officers and jawans for questioning in connection with the alleged pilferage of food and clothes meant for troops on the Siachen glacier.

This is the third and final notice and after this the police will approach a court for issuing non-bailable warrant against the officials besides seeking a direction to the Army for providing details about the scam, official sources said.

Defence Minister A K Antony had informed Parliament earlier this month that after an internal probe by the Army into the pilferage scam, the authorities had initiated administrative action against three officers and three junior commissioned officers.

The entire scam to light after the police found special rations meant for soldiers serving in Siachen Glaciers being sold in open market. Immediately, police wanted to question some of the officials including one in the rank of Brigadier stationed at Leh-based 14 corps.

Officials in Jammu and Kashmir Home Department said the Army top brass had assured cooperation once its inquiry was completed.

Now that their inquiry report is over, neither the report has been handed over to the police nor the officials handed over for questioning, senior officials said.

Right. Corruption is not a monopoly of India. We are bad there but not the worst.

I don't see any point in trying to score points by pointing out corruption or social ills in each other's country. We live in glass houses ourselves.

who is saying there is no corruption in other countries or specifically in my country indeed its everywhere.

When you steal and sell the commodities meant for the Soldiers that too in Siachin, its realy hieght of shame.
isnt it ?

and its not the first time that such corruption is found in indian army as in the past they are even doing so in supplies of pulses and even drinks.

Regarding the "height of shame", there is no depth to which a depraved human can't sink.

An unrelated analogy would be the news about an infant being used in the murder attempt on Benazir. Such depraved people could be anywhere.

dear i think one must accept such things as i always hate my own officials when they come up with words "look the prices of such and such thing in our neighbouring country i.e India are far greater than here" and believe you me we here realy hate them for such lame justification.

I meant no such thing, nor did I imply that I condone corruption.

I only meant that to act horrified on this incident when far worse things are happening all around us would be ducking reality, just to try to score some points.
