Should Sri lanka withdraw from SAARC?

I doubt that, I have never seen a single bharti with any favourable view of any east asians be it chinese or indonesian,

Most bhartis think of themselves as of high racial superiority they make fun of every race except europeans

I do think myself of high racial superiority than you, but that's for reasons not related to skin colour. ;)

SAARC is not useless and Sri Lanka is an active member of this organization

You are so right man! Every day I wake up in the morning thinking about the oh greatness of SAARC, I brush my teeth to the official anthem of SAARC. :cheesy::cheesy::rofl::rofl::rofl: Yeah right! lol my toilet is more important to me than SAARC! Why not spend the money that govt spending on SAARC, to upgrade everyone's toilets in sri lanka, It will money better spent than on that useless organization.

where your concern about its idleness than you are wrong because there must be a forum where south Asian countries can share, Communicate and discuss problems and it is useful.

Can you explain to me how this is important or any useful? What will i get in return for learning about the problems of South Asian countries.

Communicate? u know the kind of cost are involved for that? especially with our president, whose notoriously not known for traveling 'light'

President Mahinda Rajapakse's entourage participating at the 65th annual sessions of the UN General Assembly consists of 130 members and the cost incurred is said to be more than Rs.140 million.

Despite President Rajapakse taking such a large entourage, a participating head of a state could get only five people to participate at a session. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Embassy in New York has rented 85 limousines for the use of the personnel of the Sri Lankan delegation and the rent for each limousine is US$45 per hour. They have been rented for 19 hours daily from 6.00 a.m. onwards for 10 days and the cost for vehicles alone comes to Rs.70 million

The President and the entourage are occupying the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York and four wings of the hotel have been reserved for the mega delegation. The rent for one wing of the hotel for a day is US$30,000 and accordingly hotel rooms will cost Sri Lankan tax payer US$120,000 for a day. The cost for the hotel would be about US$ 600,000 (Rs.60 million) and the hotel and transport costs would be Rs.130 million.

Meanwhile, it is reported that US President Barak Obama has reserved only one wing of this hotel for his entourage and President Rajapakse's 'Mega' entourage has become a joke among the delegates participating at the UN sessions.

Communicating sharing problems isn't free!!, You got to understand that. I don't mind about the UN thing, but What is the importance for sri lanka in knowing about south Asian problems? Our biggest export market is the United States, followed by the United kingdom, Germany and Belgium.

The problems and stability of these countries are more important to me and sri lankans are large, as they could effect our economy severally, and put people out of jobs. This is despite the fact that sri lanka GDP is mainly driven by domestic demand and consumption, and is'nt export dependent. Even then this wouldn't effect me in anyway.

Honestly SAARC is ahead of times by at least 300 years, There needs to be greater economic activity happening within south Asia, for it become important. But then I wouldn't be just sri lanka that's interested in SAARC, other countries would also be.

EDIT: You know even the media has now stopped showing SAARC summits on the T.V cos the sri lankan public is no longer interested, Now i don't even get to see my money being wasted!! I think sri lanka is likely to withdraw from this soon. Once Sri lanka withdraw other countries my follow suit, which will then ultimately put an end to this tax eating menace.

The Salary of the president for 2010 is a 2,459,786,000 Rs tax free endowment with free dental and medical!

http://www.treasury.gov.lk/BOM/nbd/...entExpenditurebyMinistriesandInstitutions.pdf

Public servets has about 180 working days in the year, that works out to be a daily tax free endowment of 13,665,477 Rs. On average some the lowest paid ministers get paid 5,600,000 Rs monthly, that's 50,000 USD per month Tax free, pure cash with free medical and dental. Also we have most bloated public sectors, with around 300 ministers in cabinet. It is very important that we utilize the time of these public servants very wisely, not throw away few days at a useless summit.

This is in comparison to the highest paid public servant in India the president who gets $30,000 USD for the whole year I was told. I don't know about the other countries but I will assume they having something inline with that.

Oh and did i forget to mention the Sectary of Defence took home 1.8 million USD tax free pure cash last year :O But at least his doing his job, without wasting time. The ministry of defence is now a public listed company :) as of 2010 :) :) on Colombo stock exchange, trades under the code "UDA" check it out. Colombo Stock Exchange | Welcome
Hopefully this will turn this sector into another productive efficient sector of the country.
I'm actually very happy this guy, that 1.8 Million was very much worth it. other ministers took note this, and nearly all Ministry are going for public listing on the stock exchange this year. :) already 75 IPO are lined up be listed. this is great news. love this guy Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

EDIT:

This guy such a great inspiration i thought i might show everyone who he is, he such a great minister, he a true believer in capitalism, he had fought socialism all his life. And so far his winning. Thank god for him! I would'nt complain if they double his salary.

BTW sorry about the double post, I don't know how to delete the older one. the server did it by mistake.

I don't think Sri Lanka should withdraw from SAARC, being a member of it doesn't prevent the country's future development. Sri Lanka is a "lower middle income" country, we have to work hard to gain "upper middle income" status. Most of countries in our region belongs to "lower middle income" category, Malaysia is a "upper middle income" country and it will gain the "high income" status in 2020. Thailand and Indonesia then Sri Lanka can secure 3rd position in the queue, Indonesia stats shows low digits but their cities look more develop, better than Thailand. Comparing to them Sri Lanka is a small country, so gaining "upper middle income" status is not harder if we work with a proper plan.

I DON'T agree with the most of things "Mahinda18" has mentioned, most of things he has mentioned are weird and NOT true, I doubt he actually lives in Sri Lanka.

I actually doubt "Mahinda18" is a Sri Lankan who lives here, no one get such a salary here.

Sri Lankan President's Salary is around 97500 LKR (Sri Lankan Rupees) -[ US $ 880 ]
Prime Minister's Salary is around 71500 LKR (US $ 645)
Speaker's Salary - 68500 LKR (US $ 618)
Opposition leader's Salary - 65000 LKR (US $ 586)
Ministers' Salary - 65000 LKR (US$ 586)
Deputy Ministers’ Salary - 63500 LKR (US$ 573)
Parliamentarians’ Salary -54285 LKR (US$ 490)

that guy has mentioned about 300 cabinet ministers but Sri Lankan Cabinet has only 61 cabinet ministers including prime minister and president. Sri Lankan parliament has 225 members only, government side has 161 or 162 members!

what was that for? you keep the alliance and also can join other blocks. it needs as long time to become powerful block

I don't need to answer this person, It's clear he is not living in Sri Lanka.

Hilarious thread!! Here is the suggestion for "Mahinda18" : The only valid argument that you have is, Srilanka has the higest GDP PPP per capita among the SAARC countries. Everything else you talk about is bull.

It's doesn't

Bhutan does

108 Bhutan 5,533

.....
112 Sri Lanka 5,103

These figures are older some countries newer for others. your buffoon.

firstly only idiots use PPP
secondly sri lanka's is higher either way by PPP sri lanka is almost $7000

by nominal exchange its $2600 currently, opposed to Bhutan $1800.

Also bhutans population is 700,000, thus is classified by the IMF as a small state.

And have you thought about HDI?
