I agree. No negotiations with terrorists. Ehsanullah should be tried and hanged. He cannot escape his crimes by "surrendering", if he really did so in actuality. He should suffer the same end as Muslim Khan another TTP spokesperson.

His sins are un forgiven but if he leads us to get the Molvi Fazalullah then there might be a chance even though that will be a hard decision with heavy hearts.

If he knew where Fazlullah hides, and if Fazlullah knew that he knew (most probably) then Fazlullah would've moved when Ehsan surrendered and it went public. Odds are that if he knew, Pak Army would've kept it quiet and waited until they captured/killed Fazlullah. They know how to do stuff like this. ;)

At this point, the government would want to encourage further defection in order to try and put down the movement as fast and as painlessly as they can. For that, they need to keep surrender available as a viable option. If the terrorists see that they face certain death if they surrender and they may just scrape by if they continue fighting, that will unnecessarily prolong the conflict.

In summary thus, he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law but should not be executed. Surrender must be incentivized at this point.

I understand. What is however worrisome is why on earth an individual like that is being glorified on national TV and given airtime (interviews)? This damages public image of the Armed Forces as one confessional video was suffice. Even if an interview was to be carried out it should be done by an officer or armed forced member to display importance of sensitivity. By giving a casual interview undermines the importance of the case and brushes away any previous criminal activity. It dims the offences previously committed. Whatever was compromised of his surrender shouldn't blur the lines of justice and what's morally correct.

Surrendering may not result to death but surely accountability? If not then it gives leeway that it's acceptable to commit atrocities but handing yourself over will clean them out. That's not the message one should portray either.

Definitely there should be complete accountability and by all means I think its very unlikely that Ehsanullah Ehsan will ever see the light of day again.
I think the reason behind giving him airtime was to get renunciation of the TTP right from the horse's mouth. Show the people that this is the man who served as the movement's mouthpiece, now listen to what he has to say. The military could offer all the opposition to the TTP but it caries a lot more weight when someone who was complicit and actively involved in their terrorist campaigns comes to decry their legitimacy. I think the military felt that it would serve to undermine their narrative a lot more strongly, the public and PEMRA did not perceive it the same way. Lesson learnt, they probably wouldn't attempt something like this again.

Could not have said it better myself

This also reminds me of how they treated/presented our 4 SSGs in Matta/Swat during Sufi Muhammad's time. The tone of the media was so stern as if they have caught enemy spies red handed and eventually the interviews tone matched the unfortunate fate of the soldiers

However, only thing going in ISPR/Medias favor here is that they are trying to show him under no duress but they should certainly not be giving out the perception of casualness on their own part thereby 'brushing aside the horrendous nature of his previous criminal activities'

from what i have heard from some informed members here is that asshole reporter got what he deserved.

it was a risk worth taking too bad it back fired because an interviewer accidentally(or maybe intentionally) glorified him. had it been successful it would have put a serious dent in TTP recruitment cycle
