Perps were taken out by Police. An unarmed security guard was shot in leg but luckily it wasn't serious. Never been to Texas, but from everything I've heard and read, the last place someone wants to get into a gunfight.

Silly event, these folks love any publicity and the shooters gave them ample amounts of it.
Most Muslims have to come to realise that the formula is simple. Someone says Islam is violent, Muslims say no, person draws a picture, person then attacked, supporters say "told you so".
Attacking such people is crazy and self defeating. In its absolute terms they are exercising free speech, according to law. If people don't like it then either ignore it, hold a peaceful protest or draw your own event I.e. hold a contest praising the Prophet.
Developing a thick skin is part and parcel of living in a free society. People won't conform to your views and may hate what you believe in. How you react is the most important thing.
