Shortfall reaches 5,000MW as power outages hit Pakistan amid ongoing heatwave

First of all we have been ruled by corrupt scum who made deal like IPPs that dont produce a single watt but get paid in millions. Its like those deals have been done by enemies of Pakistan. Those scum didn't even care about capacity of transmission. They only filled their pockets and guess what, 3 years of this stupid new PM and not a single person punished for such treachery.
Pakistani people are also senseless and careless and probably deserve even worst. I know many families that have 5 ACs and all running at a time. They wont care to share AC so the load is reduced, they would waste and exploit resources just coz they have alot of haram money and can pay the bills. Then there are areas where kunda culture is common. No bills, just pay 10K to the wapda guy every 3 to 4 months and use as much electricity as possible. These people use older cheaper general ACs that consume alot of power and even use electric stoves. From rich to poor, everyone is corrupt to the level of his reach. The basic Islamic concept of halal and haram has totally vanished in our society.
A frnd n i went to clear his bill for a contract and we had to pay a hundred thousand Rs to the SDO who had a long beard and looked like a thekedar of Islam. He took it proudly as if its his right and would use the money for a sey roza.
May Allah have mercy on our society.
How come if everyone is using 5 AC's total electricity demand is only 24000 MW?

I wish I had ANY knowledge about Electric Power Industry to give any inputs so I can ONLY hope that the present Govt will be looking to solve the problem of lines losses among other things ... :(

According to Hammad Azhar, main issue is a maintenance outage at Tarbela dam. Bad time to schedule maintenance during a heat wave. Plant officials should be questioned for that poor decision.
our bureaucracy is messed up, for example they closed water canals for maintenance since last 1.5 months in my area when water is needed the most and now crops are dying because of that, and its beyond stupidity why they didn't do that in winter when there is no water anyways...

That's not what I am talking about. You're looking at it from the political angle.

I'm asking, why the businessmen don't want to invest, expand electricity installation and distribution and make billions of dollars from a nation of more than 220 million people?

When you do the maths, it's not exactly rocket science.

The problem is risk. Electricity infrastructure is a massive investment and a long term investment. Investors don't want to take that long a risk with economies such as Pakistan. That is why the likes of ADB have to step in. Even if they do want to step in, they price the risk steeply - 15% to 25% range. There government doesn't want to accept that usually because this is a sort of off balance sheet debt at least from a forex debt servicing perspective

When you can't counter the facts let's blame it to be Patwari channel 😂😂

You are Fawad Chaudhry of PDF

There are no facts in his tweet to counter. He is manipulating and lying through his teeth. Same as what he did with loans, i was shocked to see how balantly he misrepresented facts.

These are actual facts. The nunbers are released after lag so there is no way he got the breakdown of power generation. Its all half baked lies mix and matched to present a certain picture.

It is quite evident the power generstion mix and it is consistent, except for a few winter months when FO was cheaper than RLNG.

Even if we bring Sun to Pakistan to make electricity, we will still see load Shedding :(

I Thought We Had 35000 MW Installed Capacity

The capacity is not integrated as a system because it was an ill planned expansion e.g. capacity in the north can not be used for south, this goes downstream aswell. In some areas there are massive plants with very low demand resulting in capacity payments and no backup from other plants in case of shortfall if a particular plant fails or is undergoing maintainance.

The location of the plants were selected keeping politics in mind not the actual use.

because they get paid regardless based upon capacity payments..
genius isnt it ..
they even lie about their plant, they mostly install an old plant and cliam it can produce at 70% effiency..it is never tested since our distribution cant handle the load

govt doesn't has the capital to invest since after 18th amendment it has no money
while private sector cant come in as power is already very expensive

again thank the 25% return rate after 2013 as compared to 12% RR of 2001

Was reading BR article. Shortfall is 6500MW as per gov claims. But 5000MW shortfall is on purpose in where feeder losses are highest to reduce circular debt. Also gov didn't think ahead and plan properly. It was time to use so called over capacity, opposition will rightly rip in to gov claims now. Depending on unreliable hydro power every year is stupidity. Especially in June.

Basically if this gov want to not pay for capacity charges then they need to do something about electricity theft. The problem isn't over capacity alone but gov doesn't have plan how to get rid of actual problem on ground.

This latest episode have dented PTI quite badly which was going well since news of 4% GDP growth rate.

I never get this why independent power producers don't install new systems in order to expand their customer base? They'll just make more money.

What's holding them back? Why are they content with limited and cheap electricity and not thinking about multiplying their profits by supplying more? The demand is always there.

It's so strange.
Where is KANUP 2 and KANUP3 ?

Salaam

Pakistanis need to make better and more energy efficient houses. ACs work harder and pull more power than necessary to keep the temperature low.

And air-conditioning is a necessity, it's not a luxury anymore. More households will own them in future

That is an excellent point. We used to have 'raushan dans' (windows near the ceiling) in our older homes but they aren't incorporated into Newer buildings any more.

The newer designs are being built without any serious passive cooling designs in mind. The shortcomings of designs have to be compensated by the a.c which increases electric consumption.

Now when you have countless newer houses being built and coming online that are built without a code and without necessitating better designs, you have a lot of wastage.

I say wastage not toa.cs (because they are needed) but all the a.c consumption that could've been avoided by better designed houses.

I was reading a research paper on passive cooling options for homes financed by the UAE government, and it was very fascinating. So many older technologies as well as newer ones that could help the nation greatly save on the electric consumption.

It had examples of wind-catcher designs from around the world and one of the examples was from Pakistan. We should try to incorporate these into newer buildings by making it part of the building code (and obviously enforcing it) as well as thinking of retrofitting older construction with these as much as possible.

Reflective paint and such could also be made more common and cheaply available. Maybe tax cuts and such.

Where did i say everyone is using 5 ACs? Also plz keep away from topics that are none of ur concerns.
