Shooter Heena Sidhu withdraws from tournament in Iran, says won't wear hijab

France is busy taking off women's Hijab

Iran is busy making even non Muslim wear

We are living in insane world and should mind our own business rather than enforcing stupid ideas upon others

Pakistan seems me is one of the most liberal Muslim nation among st Islamic nations
Many Indian Muslims are much more religious in average compared to the Pakistanis. Truth. Shafi fiqh is the choice in our region. So you can imagine about dresscode and all.

.
It's her bravery to take such decision, but it's also not Iran fault. Fault lies with the organizers, these morons should not organize these events in such countries which force religious dress codes on other. There are tons of countries where we can have competition.

.
Because whether they're foreigners or not it does not change the religious beliefs implemented in Iran, does it? Whether you're born in Iran or not, whether you're Muslim or not, it does not matter to them. As far they're concerned, a women should cover up. You can disagree with it, but that's their rules. They certainly won't deactivate it over some sports events.
But religious beliefs of foreigners could differ from those of Iranian people? Forcing your religious values on others is not right, dont you think? What do you young Iranian people think about it?

.
You sound childish. One should have the common sense to understand that religious teachings are scared to such people. They will not abdomen them just because there is a sports event.

Iran practises Hijab for all women. It does not matter if they're foreigners. Even if you don't agree with the rule, so what? All nations have various rules. One has to be respectful to the rules. These people are acting as if covering their hair will kill them or convert them to Islam.

Actually you are being childish here.

If your religious beliefs are more sacred than the freedom of the individual athletes to wear a decent sporting dress, you shouldn't host such events. It is that simple.

I would have been fine with whatever the f*ck you wanted the athletes to wear if it was some private event in Iran or an annual Iranian sporting event. But it is NOT!

It is an Asian sporting event which Iran got to host for this year.

It is really rude and infringing on somebody else's freedom to wear what is called a decent and a modest sporting dress. It is not like the athlete is trying to push the boundaries of decency!

It seems I am replying to children here.I have already addressed this point ample time in this very thread but it seems you're suffering a case of acute amnesia?

So tell me what happens if and when Iran gets to host Olympics?

Ask female athletes not to participate at all if they can't comply with your customs?

Do you realize how shallow you guys sound by bringing your religion to places where it clearly doesn't belong? If you really feel the need to force your religious customs on others, you guys shouldn't be allowed to host any international event at all.

Weird! I really didn't realize how f*cked up things are over there!

Shooter Heena Sidhu has pulled out of the 9th Asian Airgun Shooting Championships scheduled to be held in December in Tehran stating that she did not like the dress code for women at the event, The Times of India reported.

"Forcing tourists or foreign guests to wear a hijab is not a sporting thing. I don't like it, so I pulled out," Heena told TOI.

While other shooters in the Indian team are ready to comply with the rules, Heena said her decision is her personal choice. "You are practising your religion, let me practise mine. If you are forcing your religious beliefs on me, then I don't want to compete."

The dress code on the tournament's official website reads, "Women's clothing in the shooting range and public places is required to conform to the rules and regulations of I. R. Iran."

Heena took to Twitter on Saturday to address the issue.

"We have good ties with the Iranian shooting federation and we respect their culture and tradition. Whoever goes to Iran- tourists or diplomats- wears the hijab. Except Heena, all other Indian women shooters have accepted it," National Rifle Association of India president Raninder Singh told the paper.

This is, however, not the first time that Heena has withdrawn from an event stating issues with the dress code.

In 2013, one of the reasons Heena stated while pulling out of the 6th Asian Air Gun Championships, which was also held in Iran, was the dress code.

"The event in Iran, where the female shooters will have to wear a headscarf during the competition will need a different kind of practice. I am not used it and to get used to it I will have to practice for a minimum of three weeks. It will require a special kind of training and time dedicated specifically for it," she told Mumbai Mirror.

The pistol shooter at the time was recovering from a neck and shoulder injury and said that "instead of wasting my time and energy on preparing for the event in Iran, I would rather complete my rehabilitation".

Stop replying to me and going on childish rants. Go deal with your amnesia first and then come back for a discussion.

Their country, their rules. Don't like the rules, then don't go. Simple as that.

I remember an Italian saying that and all the Indians and Pakistani 'kiss my arse blackmen' agreeing with it. :-):-):-)

Why not stay on topic?

You are on an international forum and I have every right to call you out on your bigotry and hypocrisy. Deal with it.

Not only have I already addressed your childish rant in this thread already but your amnesia also made you forget the fact that I have not claimed to be pro-Hijab law at all. Thus claiming I am bigot and hypocrite is quite hilarious. You need to visit a doctor I think.

I dont have any issues with Iranian rules its their land until their people agree with those rules its non of our business to interfere or advice ...

Agreed, but in that case international events should not be held in that country....such events should be held in countries that are neutral to participants.

 you stole favorit tag line of Indians when they target Muslims living in France or any western country where these Muslim women are forced to remove hijab and all the Indian members throng the thread saying "Their country, their rules. Don't like the rules, then don't go. "

Imagine a situation where India is holding an international event like Olympic and asking all participants to follow certain Hindu custom!

In this case participants are going to one particular country only because an international event is being held there, it's not that particular country's private event. In my strongest opinion such international events should only be given to countries that are neutral to foreign participants in terms of their culture and customs, at least within the designated area of the event where participants live and participate.
