Haldia: An Estonian ship with 800 tonnes of Ammonium Nitrate, which is used in making explosives, has been seized at Haldia port in West Bengal by the Coast Guard on Wednesday.
Coast Guard and CID officials are investigating the case and questioning all the 24 crew members. Significantly all the crew members on board the ship are Pakistanis.
A team from Intelligence Bureau has also reached the port and is trying to find out why such huge quantities of explosives were sent to West Bengal.
Authorities found out about the Ammonium Nitrate only after the ship unloaded its entire cargo.
The ship was anchored about one-and-a-half km off the dock since November 1. It is still not known whether the ship had a permit to import such huge quantities of Ammonium Nitrate.
The ship had been issued a license to import fertilizer.
