Shinzo Abe in Gujarat today: Bullet train foundation to be laid

India is doomed on Bullet Train, what Modi promised before, and what India is getting as people sift through the reams of paper (agreement):

"Japan will bring everything for the project - from nails to rails, manpower to technology and even cement-concrete,... The land and money will come from Gujarat and Maharashtra, and Tokyo will rake in all the profits. But, despite the loot and fraud, all are congratulating Modi's pet project,"

Sena criticises PM Modi's bullet train project

Modi did know the inner mechanism of this deal, but he was selectively silent on these facts that are emerging now, only to enrich Gujarat further with International landmark like the Shinkansen.

For those who Oppose the #BulletTrain now must think about the First time starters of everything. listed is Indian Railways First Time list of few...

you should also do the same first. and that's no excuse bro

During 2014 when Modi get into power crude oil price for 110$ .. and petrol price is 81rs.. now crude oil price is nearly 48$.. though petrol price is 74rs... 8 RS raise since daily review introduction.. excise duty shot up from 9rs to 21.48rs.. vat increased 31%..

Space program is earning India money...Chances of Bullet trains running on loses is high, wear and tear, subsidized rates. Delhi metro, the flagship Metro is still running on loses even with the raised fares. It is about diminishing returns(mostly happens in infra)....earning(space program) as opposed to incurring loses(Bullet T).

Delhi metro is making profit, rather it's one of the only few metros around the world that makes profit out of the system.

There have been income losses due to price hike.

All the space program we conduct including tests, are not profit oriented. It's a necessity.

The HSR construction is not done by Japan, they are financing and giving tech support with ToT. Indian Engineers are doing the project under the guidance of Japanese. It's a win-win for both parties.

Also, we are getting loan at mere 0.1%. Which is way lower interest rates than IMF or any development bank loans.
Yes Metro's has high incurring/initial cost, Lahore Metro is costing about 2.05 billion USD, huge for a developing country like Pakistan. Ideally invest in HDI, education should be the priority, higher education specially, then health...
HDI includes infrastructure. It is not an Education and Health index.
Also with a Bullet train running in one corridor initially, the discrepancy, the difference between Indian old railway system and the Bullet train will be more starker, more noticeable. Up gradation of the current railway should be the first priority, like changing it to a decent high speed system...Bullet rain is ahead of the curve...difference will be stark, visible, as between the haves and haves not in India.
The only difference that you could see is when compared to flights. Trains are always a reliable source when it comes to short distance travel.

Like I said, the development of existing railways system is not halted, it is following the suit. We also signed an MoU with the Japanese for improving the security of our current railway.

If we can afford such a system, then why not go for it. India of course have poor people but we have a rapidly increasing middle and upper classes. We need to take care of every sections. Not just the poor.

why is it that no Chinese friend is saying China highspeed train rail network is already touching 22,000 kms
Irrespective of what anyone says about Chinese domestic HST program, it is a crowning achievement of Chinese industry, something they can be very proud of. I personally have very high regards for the program and am sure next generation of very high speed train designs (450-600 kph LMP) will come from China. @AndrewJin you can say more about it.
A 19 billion USD project in India with rail road infra not in good condition, makes it a bit extravagant project, need to make the rail infra safe(keeping in mind the high accident rate) in India.
True, but this program of Japanese shinkansen is independent of or will hardly put any load on Railway budget, almost all of it is financed by Japan.
Our focus on safety upgrades (including ageing infra management) requires massive capital expenditure on tracks, signalling, vehicle up gradation and automation. Its only from last few years after Kakodkar committee put forward its recommendations, that some movement has started to take place.
And start with the basics like investing in Human Development. Pakistan should follow the same, Sri Lanka is doing better in HDI.
Honestly, there is enough money for these programs too, the issue is that of corruption and leaks that occur in system where hardly anything reaches til last man. Unless we improve governance, any amount of money, removed from any other program will have same fate. @SOUTHie has given nice example of space program. I think we must learn from it as how even a frugally budgeted department can become one the best in world (Satellite launches etc) if they are efficient. @nair what say?
BRTS in Lhr/Isb and Multan
my last comment, but in India Bus Rapid Transit system hasn't been found to be of much effectiveness. I don't know how BRTS is being financed in Pakistan, but i think it would've been better to focus on rail based metro system which is becoming cheaper by the day and is much more environmentally benign.

Another train details in delhi today.
Wtf is this govt thinking, jo hai wo theek nahi karna hai par bullet train ka gaana jarur gaana hai.
Just imagine what will happen if bullet trains start to derail like this. Thousands will die and who will be responsible then. Govt should start investment in current rail infra instead to diverting all railway funds to bullet trains.

what has ahmadabad got to offer which delhi cant.
zero !

we should have gone for that route. a feasibility gone wrong like demonitisation will make chances of a effective route go poof in air.

as a business man or tourists i think only 1% people travel via there. also we could have made delhi a hub for furthur Chandigarh route.

delhi gurgaon noida panipat can offer a whole lot more to economy.

what is ahmadabad just a manufacturing area. not a trade capital. why make new market if u have lots more running already.

traders need Kolkata delhi chandigarh mumbai connection. a 50 km away station from ahmadabad wouldnt make much diffrence.

unless u want to bring it all to ahmadabad and expect to ruin existing trade centers.

this is very high, thought it's cheaper in India than Pakistan, looking at the Indian and Pak rupee parity, like 1.6 Pak rupee= 1 Indian rupee, the prices are about 60% higher in India.

The first a couple of years will be hard.
Ridership of one single-line HSR will be small.
You have to wait until at least a small network made of 3-4 lines in operation.

Trains from auxiliary lines feeding main lines

The case in Japan is different, their entire country only has one busy corridor, Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka-Fukuoka.
Most traffic is between Tokyo and Osaka.

But the case in india, until it forms a basic network, the total traffic volume will be low.
Just like a single subway in a big city.
