KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) dismissed Muttahida Qaumi Movements (MQM) appeal against the delimitation of 11 new constituencies in Karachi on Tuesday, Express News reported.
The SHC said that the decision to redraw new constituencies was given by the Supreme Court and it cannot interfere in the decisions taken by Supreme Court.
In March, the larger bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan had given authority to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to carry out delimitation procedures wherever it found that creating new constituencies were necessary.
A few days later, the ECP issued a notification for delimitation of three constituencies of National Assembly and eight constituencies of the Provincial Assembly.
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain had termed the delimitation of Karachi constituencies a strategy to harm the MQMs vote bank.
