Why sacrifice the country's finances for something PTI is going to lose anyway?

By losing would be sacrifice. If you knewv that PPP or PML would take over in 2023 and then also act responsibly then what you say makes sense. But you know this would be like saving jewellery and then placing it in nice gift box for robbers to have right big celebration after 2023. More Avenfields etc.

Instead why not tactically given electoral reality of Pakistan ease of the brake and loosen public finances hoping that comes 2023 you win. And they lost because of establishment. Because both PPP and PML have their deep roots after decades of corruption 2023 will be close call even with support of establishment.

If PTI win 2023 then expect PPP and PML to go through major change.

Last week I was in Scotland I saw the incredible Forth Bridge which was built 140 years ago or nearly one and half centuries ago. Think about that scale of time. That bridge still stands. I could not help think and respect the British nation. First that nearly 150 years ago they had the industrial, financial, organizational capability and the foresight to build something that would benefit six generations and counting. Think about that. Six generations and counting. 73 workers died building the bridge. And they did not ask Chinese or outsiders to build it. They built it 100% with their own ability.

In Pakistan even today you see a bridge built and it looks so shoddy that it probably will struggle to last 20 years. Newly built roads crack open within few years.

Agreed. But tell me what exactly are the alternatives. You already know it is either a Bhutto or Sharif. And you also know what they would have done. After all you have 30 years to draw your conclusions. Comes 2023 it is either PTI or the same 30 year cycle. I know where my vote would go.

The Indians and folks in think tank land always like to highlight loans and IMF bailouts yes it's quite sad nevertheless but the evils of debt is foisted on the Global South unfortunately but the question for Pakistan is how to attain 2nd world status by mid century at least

You don't think it's a problem that we've had a Finance Minister last 17 days in office? Either he did something majorly wrong or the PM appointed a man and randomly changed his mind 17 days later. If he was incompetent, then why has he been assigned as Minister of Energy? Maybe he was replacing the last Minister of Energy who in my opinion failed in his role to control circular debt. If thats the case then why has that guy been rewarded with the role of Minister of Economic Affairs?

Hafeez sheikh fiasco disturbed everything. Now they need someone who can negotiate with IMF and transition away from it eventually.

Hamad was just appointed as Tareen wanted some days. Without the Finance minsiter it would not look good.

If the current policy of growth and increase in tax net and hopefully privitazing some soes continues along with the emergence of Pakistan single window system, 2022 would be a far far better year.

Circular debt is a huge problem that cannot be solved within days. Current govt is counting on growth, increase in tax and non tax revenues along with laying off loss making soes .

Which raises the question what can we realistically expect from PTI's Naya Pakistan. The answer is nothing much will change in Pakistan for at least a generation or 20/25 years. The problem is the vested order is too deeply entrenched and has religion thrown in as a decoy to detract and obfuscate from any drastic change. The very masses who should be storming in the streets to bring about a social and economic revolution are instead sedated by the mullahs who chase their oen agenda's. Like going after the French, some poor Christian, Ahmedi';s, Shias etc.

So what can we expect? Right now Pakistan's economic has been sabotaged by urban elite/middle class of the largest cities mostly Karachi and Lahore. These lot live a idle life while the 150 million work like animals for a pittance. Most of the PDF members from Pakistan are from this class. The vast majority in Pakistan either can't afford access to internet or don't have time. They need to feed their families in the evening.

What I hope PTI manages to do is lay the seeds of change that sprout in two decades. What do I mean? Bring literacy to the rural Pakistan. Bring health to rural Pakistan. Over a generation that 150 million voiceless will get a voice and bring change about in Pakistan.

When you get PDF'ers from Bannu, Wana, Killah Saifullah, Chitral, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Chitral, Bhakker, Vehari, Uch Sharif, Ghotki, Sehwan, Badin etc that make 75% of the population. This will mobilize a vast regions of Pakistan and this will bring about change. Right now we have 15% capture of 95% of the economy.

Only education, education and access to health will release this 75% suppressed potential.

Vice had interesting report about the influence of TikTok among the lower and lower middle clases segment of the population yea it has degenerate content but you mention giving voice to the voiceless I think if there one thing Pakistan needs is high speed broadband all over the country that would be so much more better than bunch of concrete boondoggle projects like highways it will be the Gutenberg press for countries like Pakistan and the Global South

The original plan was that Hamad Azhar would be front man as he is an elected MNA so he can be a minister for longer term. Since Hamad Azhar does not have strong financeial policy back ground, Shaukat Tareen was to be actual mind of the finance policy but he cannot be the minister as he is neither an MNA nor a senator. This plan was reported by Rauf Klasra and many other political bloggers.

Now I think Shaukat Tareen has agreed to become front man himself opposed to back seat driver.

The spanner in works to chucking money at the masses to make them sweet for 2023 elections is IMF. But I suspect the government will use coronavirus as excuse to be given some 'space'. That will give them some freedom to open the purse. Me thinks!
