Shalwar Kameez - a Pakistani dress?

Neither Pasta is Italian nor these trousers are South Asian.

Both of these are imports from China.

Shalwar Kameez is as chinese as kaak or namkeen roash.

How far we going here?

British era.... ghagera/lehnga is actually panjabi clothing.

Shalwar Kameez is in reality (or atleast the style worn in "stans" originally from persia... you can find pics from Qajar era).

Who copy what is open for debate because shalwar kameez have turk-Persian origin and we dont know in what shape it was introduced and how much it has been evolved since then so this discussion of limiting clothe to a specific country dont make sense to me . If you are saying that shalwar kameez is afghan dress because male pasthun wear it then pashtun live in boht Afghanistan and Pakistan. Punjabi males and females wear it in different styles as well who also live in boht India and Pakistan so it make more sense to call shalwar kameez Pakistani dress than afghan

Is this look anywhere near to modern shalwar kameex being worn in Pakistan?

It is simply an amalgam of Indian, Persian, and Arab.

As it would be in a part of the world that's had influences and control (and seed) of all three.

Salwar is women only dress in India, men don't wear it. Salwar wearing men are specific to Pakistan and Afghanistan only.

It is predominantly the dress for the Muslim people of subcontinent + Afghanistan. Hindu men wear lungi and their women wear saree but now they are getting civilised too. Though Muslim introduced the concept of blouse for saree as before the advent of Islam, it was only the cloth that was wrapped around the body ( the idols of their goddesses have no blouse on them whatsoever)

Sad to see pious Paistani Muslim women wearing shalwaar kameez without properly covering heads.
We should rather discuss what is appropriate dress for a Muslim woman. Saudis are sure but late converts seem to change their definition as per their fashion demands.
We should discuss what is the right thing rather than where it originated and which one is more fashionable

An Indian dress...more a Punjabi dress. But there are other Indian dresses that are particular to each state.
