Portion in Bangla of above post is just another lie out of many millions that have been told by RAWAMY criminals. After the fakes of Commie, atheist, Ganjakhor, Modkhor got out and people figured out there motives; especially seeing them drinking, smoking pots and using extremely insulting languages against Islam and Prophet (PUBH); they realized that the time was first approaching for the spirit, tempo to fade away, so pulling off such PR stunt. But if they think that they are too clever and always can get away by continuing lie, recurrent lie, spin on original lie; then I got a message for them. U haven't become more powerful than Neo-con or pharos yet...

They are not necessarily Commies. Just naive people. Basically, they want "mob justice" as evidenced here:

This is a very complicated matter, and not something to paint with a broad brush with and say "problem solved".

One thing that is increasingly clear is that the necessary evidence that'll tie him or any member of JI to the alleged crimes will never surface if they keep looking inside the country. Witnesses are as good as any word of mouth campaign in your typical marketing program, and that appears to be going great

Lobbying against Bangladesh's creation is a different matter.

Would the AL have the spine to ask Pakistan for information regarding the trial in an amicable manner? Would they do that with India as well? Not a chance.

If they fail in this trial according to a bunch of kid's expectations, then it may seriously hamper Hasina and her party's credibility.

mmm....use Jamaatis as bait to kill Awami League....are you thinking what I'm thinking? :woot:

Yes motives are different.

You are probably not aware of the fact that how much people in Bangladesh hate Jamaat with a passion. Their activities in 1971 forever doomed this party. That is one image they can never get rid off.

AL is playing dirty politics with that.

Hate Jamaat with a passion? Could be. Some folks (young included) still support them. Let's just say they have different opinions. Personally, I think it's a worthless party. Though, it has some potential.

Yes, AL is playing dirty politics.

But doomed you say? Well, demanding for "mob-justice" in an international court (apparently) by the young generation, and with no evidence tying that specific individual to those specific events of 71', then the future of the nation itself is pretty much doomed.

And doomed as in not particularly having strong future. Things would remain as they are, at least in politics. Maybe worse. And Bangladesh would always remain weak and vulnerable to all sorts of things. It's a crime to be weak....serious crime....

A minority party maybe doomed, but what of the entire nation?

I seriously wonder if those kids online are thinking about the image they are giving off about themselves, and their nation(?)

A wise member here once said that the greatest tragedy that can strike a nation are not its politicians and leaders, but its youth. I really hope Bangladesh doesn't fall into that hole. Once it does, it takes generations to heal.

People think and plan something yet something else happen.Allah is the greatest architect and only Allah has knowledge over all things.

It does seem they are in the mission to create another 71 like situation. In 71 it was west vs east but now it's is conservative vs. secular. Awami and leftist thugs wants to kill Islamic leaders and take over Jamati own business as they have done same with west Pakistani own business after 71, like Adamji jute mill. Awami is very jealous type of people and they have really low, low, low human qulities. I would place them under sub-human monkey.

Al and leftist secular thugs are in the misson to eliminate Islam from Bangladesh. But as Islamic poet Allah Iqbal said: "Tauheed ki amanat senon main hai hamarey, Asan nahin mitana naam-o-nishaan hamara". Allahu Akbar.

What you say is a very strong possibility.

Good now people are coming out of jamat brigade and talking openly and unbiasedly.
I liked the fb pick. Just imagining :guns: molla.
This protest has strong significant. If we can stand against jamat-shibir's violation then why not to purify our mainstream politics.

Bengali people by nature are very politically conscious (both west and east, India and Bangladesh), you can ask @LaBong about this.

Now with social media, e.g. its role in the Arab spring, it is more and more difficult for politicians to hide and also to cover their misdeeds. Soon being a politician will be far from being an enviable job whereby you can get a comfortable ministerial job in a highly illiterate country and loot millions with people not knowing anything, rather people will know exactly what is going on and be very demanding to the point that being a politician will only be for those who want to make a difference and can take the pressure of being heavily criticized/hated.

All these things take time but we are on the right path and far more stable than the Arab world, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other Muslim countries.

I sincerely hope Ershad speaks out against these Jamati traitors and possibly even a BNP-Jatiya coalition after the next elections.

I wonder what the Jamati-supporters will say about this.

They will probably accuse him of being an "Indian secret agent" and "communist" and "dalal".

What stood out was when the boy said at 0.21 "Ami ekjon Bangladeshi" (I am someone Bangladeshi) in the context that though he is related to Kader Molla he is one of the people too as the reporter had basically said "but Kader Molla is your "Nana" (grandfather).

He also said he was from the first day and will stay there till the end.

Anyway as I said Jamatis are only 4.6% of the population and are a tiny minority.

An ATM booth of Islami Bank was torched by unknown youths in Khulna city on Sunday afternoon.

A group of six to seven youths on motorcycles vandalised the ATM booth and set it on fire around 3:10pm at Shib Bari intersection, reports our Khulna correspondent.

Later, the fire fighters rushed to the spot and douse the fire, SM Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station, told The Daily Star

What you say is a very strong possibility.

1970 election saw about 26% vote for all the religious party combined. Since independence its been miniscule votes for the religious folks.

They are doomed in the sense that they have no relevance other than when they tag along with a bigger party.

AL is a much bigger party then BNP, BNP needs ally in absence of political numbers to face AL in election.

AL is doing what she did with Ershad ( Jatiya Party) to make an alliance. She played the same game with Ershad to get his compliance.

Speaker to send it to PM, opposition leader
2013-02-11__fr12.jpg

Shahbagh protesters yesterday submitted a six-point charter to the Speaker, demanding death penalty for all war criminals, including Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah, and revocation of the state's power to grant them amnesty.

A five-member delegation of Bloggers and Online Activist Network that initiated the protest met Speaker Abdul Hamid at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and placed their demands.

The other demands include an amendment to the International Crimes Tribunal Act, allowing appeals against inadequate punishment and disposal of appeals from both the defence and the prosecution within three months of their filing.

The collaborators, who had been either convicted or under trial but set free from jail after political changeover following the coup on August 15, 1975, must be brought to book, the protesters said.

Abdul Hamid said he would send copies of the charter to Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina, Leader of Opposition in Parliament Khaleda Zia and other ministers concerned for taking necessary actions.

This is the first formal move by the bloggers and online activists since they occupied the capital's Shahbagh intersection on February 5 in protest at an international crimes tribunal awarding Quader Mollah life term instead of capital punishment.

The team had a brief discussion with the Speaker.

Talking to The Daily Star at the Speaker's office, an activist said Abdul Hamid is a neutral person who heads parliament -- the supreme political institution.

The charter also calls for a ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami and like-minded religion-based political parties, anti-liberation forces and collaborators of Pakistani occupation forces.

Besides, all businesses, socio-cultural bodies and media outlets run by war criminals should be banned, the charter says, naming Islamic Bank, Ibne Sina, Focus and Retina coaching centres and media outlets Diganta TV, daily newspapers Naya Diganta, Amar Desh and Sangram and Sonar Bangla Blogs.

Stringent action has to be taken against the Jamaat-Shibir men who recently threatened to wage a civil war and so committed sedition, the protesters said.

They also demanded trial of the political parties, forces, individuals and organisations that are trying to save war criminals and hatching a conspiracy to foil the on-going trial.

The charter signed by Imran H Sarker says protesters took an oath at the February 8 grand rally that they will not return home until their demands are met.

Chatra-League Attack on Lucky Akhter

Rally enters day 6 with more vigour
Tigers join Shahbagh protests
2013-02-11__fr01.jpg

As the Shahbagh movement entered its sixth day yesterday, the arrival of the Tigers at the intersection added more vigour to the indomitable spirit of the protesters.

As some former and present cricketers took to the stage and chanted slogans to support their cause, the crowd burst into cheers stronger than the applause the team receives after winning a crucial match.

The support of Abdur Razzak, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Md Ashraful, Elias Sunny, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mominul Haque, Nasir Hossain, Nazmul Hossain and Shohag Gazi from the national cricket team accompanied by some former cricketers made the agitating youths even more determined to continue their movement.

The national cricketers apart, all the team members of Duronto Rajshahi led by its owner Mushfiqur Rahman Mohan joined the protesters at Shahbagh, much to the demonstrators' enthusiasm.

The young generation has been accused of being apathetic and apolitical. But the Shahbagh movement has proved that they are not ignorant about or indifferent to the current state of the country.

Protestors said they were already angered by the recent countrywide violence by Jamaat-Shibir activists against the trial. Then, the verdict against Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah clearly went against their expectation.

These two incidents have forced the young generation to take to the streets, they said, adding that the wave of Shahbagh movement has vibrated the whole nation.

"Seeing the anarchy of Jamaat-Shibir activists, many people thought Jamaat-Shibir to be the dominating force in the country. But the Shahbagh movement has shown that the pro-liberation people are the dominating force and that Jamaat-Shibir are just a parasite in the society," said Mokarram Hossain Shuva, a protester and blogger.

Kajal Abdullah, an organiser of the movement, said, "Our predecessors have done their job by freeing the country. Now it is our turn to eliminate the anti-liberation forces from Bangladesh."

The nonstop protest began just hours after a war crimes tribunal on February 5 sentenced Quader Mollah to life term in prison for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

The movement was launched by Bloggers and Online Activist Network, but it soon transformed into a people's movement. Demonstrators say a life sentence for Mollah was too lenient. They want death sentence for him and all other war criminals.

On Friday, the nation yesterday saw the biggest gathering in recent memory as tens of thousands thronged the Shahbagh intersection to call for death penalty to war criminals.

From the 3:00pm-6:00pm mass rally that day, people took an oath to continue the movement until their demand is met, and vowed to boycott all businesses, banks, media outlets and social and cultural organisations owned by Jamaat leaders. They also called for banning Jamaat and its student wing, Shibir.

Joining the protest yesterday, Duronto Rajshahi owner Mushfiqur Rahman said it was a good news for the country that no Pakistani players were playing in this year's Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament.

The team members left the protest ground, which has come to be known as "Prajanmo Chattar," around 11:30am.

Protesters made a mock gallows at the venue that turned into a human sea with the participation of thousands of people in the evening.

Meanwhile, protestors yesterday placed to Speaker Abdul Hamid a six-point demand, including death penalty to Quader Mollah and all other war criminals; trial of the political parties, forces, individuals and organisations trying to save war criminals and conspiring to foil the trial; and revocation of the state's power to declare general amnesty for the persons convicted by the tribunals.

Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, writer Anisul Haque, Human Rights activist Khushi Kabir and National Human Rights Commission Chairman Prof Mizanur Rahman also joined the demonstrations yesterday.

Earlier on Saturday night, Khulna Royal Bengals skipper Shahriar Nafees joined the Shahbagh demonstrations.

Yesterday, students of different schools, colleges and universities from Dhaka and elsewhere in the country took part in the movement. People from Chuadanga, Kushtia, Mymensingh, Kishoreganj, Barguna and several other districts also joined the protest.

Protesters announced that Bangladeshis living in the US also expressed solidarity with them.

A seven-year old boy gave the full speech that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered on 7 March 1971.

Meanwhile, a group of young journalists continued with their hunger strike for a second consecutive day yesterday before the Dhaka Reporters Unity, demanding cancellation of Jamaat leaders' membership in the Jatiya Press Club.

The cable operators of Srimangal upazila in Moulvibazar, in an unprecedented move, have stopped broadcasting Diganta television, which is owned by a Jamaat leader.

Demonstrations also took place in Tangail, Khulna, Magura, Manikganj, Rangpur, Pabna, Munshiganj and Natore.

Well said.

A very accurate and realistic post (compared to most of the drivel we read on this forum) about some of the realities of Bangladeshi politics.

1. The Awami League is a far bigger party with far more committed supporters (not that most Bangladeshis support them but their own following of party activists is far bigger than the BNP's) which is only natural since they are around 3 decades older than the BNP.

I didn't want to point this out before since with some of the hysteria and name calling in this forum I would have been labelled as "Awami" for pointing out this reality.

2. Religious parties have very little share of the votes, Jamat has 4.6 as we all know now and the 4 or so other Islamic parties (Deobandis mainly) are negligible. However Jamat is important in acting as an ally to the BNP.

3. Ershad has a lot of support in his part of north Bangladesh but it's said when he dies the Jatiya party will basically fade away.

4. Nevertheless it's almost certain the BNP will win the next elections and Hasina will be on her way out.

The question is what happens to the Awami League.

Hasina will be the leader.

What happens if Hasina dies during the tenure of the next BNP govt?

Who will succeed her, her family or someone else?

Due to the 3rd world nature of Bangladesh and Bangladeshi politics the consensus seems to be that it will be her family.

The question then is who?

a: Joy, he apparently has critics in the league and is seen as a weak leader. He is also involved in corruption scandals which the US or Canada could prosecute him for.

b: Rehana, Hasina's sister. Rehana is seen as being very corrupt and more corrupt than her sister (or as some think it could just be a case of Rehana taking money for her sister).

c: "Bobby", Redwan, Rehana's son.

Redwan is British-educated as opposed to the American-educated Joy.

The main challenge for Bangladeshis is to work some sort of miracle and end the reign of the Sheikh family in the Awami League and also other senior leaders (@Iajdani seems to know a bit about this) and also the culture of violence and thuggery deeply rooted in this crypto-communnist party.

As for the next BNP government. I expect most major things to stay the same.

- Continuation of "Digital Bangladesh"
- Indigenizing defence production
- Seeking to establish positive trade relations with India after sorting out bi-lateral issues of dispute (easier for a BNP govt to do than an Awami one which constantly faces the charge of being "Indian dalals"...as we know all too well from this forum).
- Export of manpower to different countries as is being currently done.
- Growth of textiles industry
- Growth of ship building industry
- Diversification of the economy with other sectors being developed

Most of these important things do not change regardless of which government is in power, what changes is silly things like "who declared independence and who did not"...naming places after Zia/Mujib. Having/not having certain Islamic wording in the constitution etc.

Much of the hysteria in this forum about BNP/Awami is way exaggerated.

Chatra-League Attack on Lucky Akhter

Lucky Akhter was attacked from behind by a group of people when she protested the presence of Awami League minister and some MP's at Shahbag and was shouting for no speech by these people or any member of political parties.... It is assumed that the attack was done by Chatra Lueague for this protest...

Awami league must know this the movement is not their sole property. It is done by the youth who want purely the punishment of the war criminals not to provide backing to any political parties. Awami league will be doomed if they try to play with it.
