CM Shahbaz Sharif visits TBEA’s lab, which is engaged in the research and manufacture of photovoltaic products and solar energy equipment - one of the earliest hi-tech enterprises engaged in solar energy research and exploration. CM’s current visit to china aims at getting more solar power projects established in Pakistan to deal with energy crisis

I don't know why but I think our CM is looking at the corner and thinking, 'Yaha b aik underpass hona chahaye...' :D

If we could have subsidized solar plates (bigger ones) for the private market, I think we can cushion the electricity crisis by having homes slowly switch to such systems and then perhaps have a town sponsored mini-solar plant plan for every 15-20 houses. It's not much but it would definitely dent the demand.

Pakistan needs to produce its own solar pannels and also wind mills.

Private Sector needs boths skillset as well as investments in R&D and technological infrastructure to do so. Not until very recently, the energy systems engineering has been introduced in Pakistan (UAF being tasked with starting the program). So it might be very fisable deep down the road when we have enough economic pickup to support capital investment and human resource to do so, but for the time being its pretty much difficult unless a foreign investor steps in with the investment. I guess Chinese and Germans(?) have agreed to set up manufacturing infrastructures in Pakistan but even that too, will take quite some time.

Somebody was telling me yesterday that Shahbaz has been tasked by the PM to look after energy projects and ensure that they are completed in time. And also that PM may sack the Khawaja Asif for under-performance in Ministry of Energy and Power and replace him with Abid Shair Ali who is the state minister currently.

Solar energy is to mobile phones.

With mobile phones, you cut down the capital of building land line infrastructures and bring the telecommunication services to most citizens on the cheap.
Solar energy can reduce the number of expensive power generation stations, transmission lines, maintenance expenditures, and localize the power generation to the community level.

But there are local investors who can invest in it but the skill set can be hired from Germeny

Can you point anyone who is already manufacturing these Panel in Pakistan, leave a side many.

SS should concentrate on only two things, when thinking about Solar Technology to get successful.

1) Solar updraft Tower, and Storing Energy in Salt
2) Solar CPS/CPV Panel manufacturing Pakistan

No Importing Panel will solve the core issue

Did I not tell you guys... they will not liberalize the energy policy but will keep tight grip over it.
Any locals will be strictly kept away from building solar energy system at any scale.

Welcome.. democrazy, sponsored by IMF.

Sorry But Solar Wind and nuclear are expensive to install and maintain. We need cheap energy for our dying industry, we need cheap energy. Why spend Billions of dollars on solar, wind or nuclear, Why these government cann't focus on hydel generation. cheap electrity plus no floods every year, saving billions of dollars of crude oil import and food prices would also be under control as no demages to crops by annual flooding and we would have extra water as well.
