The question is that who is doing it willingly and who is being made complacent? Dumping claim isn't gonna help the cause. How Dr Malik's attempts to bring militant groups into national stream were systematically sabotaged, is a clear evidence.

I can answer U that and ofcourse U wud not like it. Dr Malik got the post of CM as a deal with PML (N) as almost half of the tenure was suppose to be ruled by Mr Malik's party while rest was to be ruled by PML (N) as they had the seats and support of Mr CHAKZAI for that. Since when you can use fb as a hard evidence to make such a claim or to back it up?

Where is the hard evidence that Zardari and Nawaz are corroupt. So, they aren't? They recently organized a rally in Islamabad where chants of "kafir kafir, .... kafir " were raised. They even said, we dont' give a damn about any national, any action, or any plan. The leader from Punjab or his son is contesting elections in Jhang. If I recall, a deceased leader of the "banned" outfit was brought in to negotiate in GHQ's siege.

Dont confuse two separate issues. Shafiq Mengal was heading a state sponsored group 2-3 years back, FC raided his house and tried to rein into his group. Shafiq went rouge and undergorund and became a chief patron for LeJ and attacks on Shia. Since his trip from Syria, he is spreading ISIS ideology now in balochistan.

LEJ-A is a splinter group of LEJ. jamat ul ahrar is a splinter group of taliban.
LEJ-A joined ISIS. JA joined alqaeda.
LEJ-A carried many attacks in collaboration with ISIS in afghanistan.
JA is considered to be a group that can still do terrorism itself alone but recent alqaeda defeats have decreased their funds and it joined ISIS after this problem.

If true severe action should be taken against him. The problem is only empowering Balochs to rule and run Balochistan is the solution to the problem. But then when that is done we have douches like Shafiq Mengal who take advantage. It is an unfortunate truth. There should be a process for vetting to understand which group would be the most successful in running their regions in Balochistan. There is an acknowledgement in the center that the dealing of anti Pakistan groips and control of regions inhabited by Baloch should be a responsibility of the Baloch themselves. The problem arises when opportunists who want to increase their power take advantage. Shafiq Mengal may be one such person.

As far as LEJ is concerned we already know state has done little to target it but this is changing as the killing of malik ishaq proved. But the nexus between government and mullahs has not been broken. In remote areas like Musa Khel and Shinwari regions it is almost a given that takfiri mullahs will be elected. PMLN gave seats to ASWJ mullahs and PPPP gave a seat to people like Mian Mithoo responsible for the Rinkle Kumari case.

And @Horus this is not about shia sunni. Its about taking action against sectarian militant groups the same way we take action or over react to ethnic militant groups like BLA/BRA. Any pussy footing around taking action against one group while taking severe action against the other will raise eyebrows. LEJ/TTP is a far worse enemy than the Baloch nationalist groups but we have failed to break their back.

Whenever the issue of free rein given to jihadi groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad is raised, security experts with intimate knowledge of the security establishment’s thinking say that since these groups have never threatened or attacked Pakistani forces they are not a priority.



Fair enough. But at the same time it should be made abundantly clear to these groups that the days they were seen as a tool of national security policy are over. Any solo flights in terms of militant activities anywhere else will also invite the wrath of the state.

Even then, what continues to worry me about the perceptions that guide policy over such groups is, for example, what has become of the Baloch Musallah Defai Tanzeem led by one Shafiq Mengal. This group is said to have enjoyed the confidence of the FC-led Balochistan law and order set-up and, alongside the paramilitary force, was seen as being in the vanguard of the fight against Baloch separatists.

The group seemed to have complete freedom of action and nobody bothered when red lines were crossed as long as its targets were those seen as hostile to the state. But who was looking when other scores, including personal and sectarian, were settled?

Eventually, when the state tried to rein it in as the first hint of policy change emerged, the group’s leader went rogue. In the past months, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi al-Alami and Daesh have claimed responsibility for attacks on the lawyers and the police training centre in Quetta and, more recently, at the Shah Noorani shrine in Khuzdar. Shafiq Mengal’s name is being mentioned as being a part of this grouping.

Along with focusing on the threat to our eastern frontiers and along the Line of Control, the incoming chief will also have to focus attention on this issue. Those responsible for the murderous attacks in Balochistan claim to be based in Afghanistan.

The state has to deal with all manner of people. Only someone deluded will think that the state should start killing everyone instead of talking to them.
