Seven things I hate about Indian restaurants

. .
The only thing I hate about restaurants , pizzahut, dominoes etc is the retarded western habit of tipping

These waiters are paid to bring food it's taken as service tax on the bill . Yet these pricks give the Bitch stare every time I don't tip.

In the west most waiters don't get minimum wage and they survive on tips. In India most waiters get regular wages but too little to survive on. So, whatever tips they get they appreciate it .

Actually I am a big tipper and my wife hates me for that. She tells me I spoil it for others.

I expect the best service and I tip generously for that. In return I get best spots at parking lots, helpers at supermarkets to carry bags, best service in restaurants with big servings etc. :enjoy:

Once the pizzas I ordered from dominoes had missing extra topping. I called them up and complained about the missing topping. They remembered me, acknowledged the mistake and gave the pizzas for free. These american chains have some guidelines to deal with situations like these. Every time Dominoes delivered the pizza late they knocked off Rs300 from my bill.

Even in restaurants where they have service charge(not service tax) I tip at least 5% of the bill amount because the waiters don't get any of it in most cases.

P.S. In India, Vat (5%) and Service Tax(14.6) are mandatory and are taxes and not to be confused by the service charges restaurant adds to the bill.

Expecting someone to freely give them money is nothing but begging , fact is its the restaurants responsibility to pay them not our . If they are unhappy about their pay then they should look for a better job or ask for a raise than begging .

Why should they get paid extra , its retarded . All they do is walk 10 feet to the counter . they don't work hard for it .they definitely do NOT deserve a raise .

The only person who deserves a tip is a GOOD cook , not these modern beggars.

True but most waiters survive on tips. Restaurants don't pay them living wages because they want to keep the costs low to attract more customers. Any business is risk oriented and restaurants too go through ups and downs.

I agree- good cooks don't get any recognition and they usually take home less pay than the waiters.

Well I'm sure your unhygienic feelings would be the in back of your head no matter which foreign country you are in. It's pretty normal. It's because you kind of expect things not to be on the level of "street food" which you'd be hesitant/careful about eating here too.

Most service oriented industry like cleaning , house keeping, is least organised in India and the staff are not professionally trained. You can see the unhygienic conditions prevalent in most restaurants and hotels. On a side note one of my school friend saw a niche in this industry and is trying to bring professionalism into this market. He grew rapidly and has few thousand staff under him.
