Yes it is a protest, and perfectly okay in exercise of guaranteed rights of citizens, as American as apple pie.

But these are private petitions and NOT state applications for secession, as is being claimed and propagated. There is a huge chasm between the two.

Texas has a population of roughly 25.6 million. Do 100,000 people, some of dubious state citizenship and furthermore nationality signing this petition even speak for 10 million Texans?

Hell pull all the petition signatures together (count foreigners, doubles, and those of different states, just cause im so generous) and count it for texas, and it still wouldn't be close to representing it.

how did you come from talking sensible to that ............ i am saying even if half of america were to take arms they wont be separated americas highest chance of being broken came during the civil war and these states wont leave like that and even if this was done by states heads america wont allow them too leave i am more interested to what will obama say will he ignore it or address.
if he ignores it it will be shown as a non consequential event but the people who signed will be hurt
however if he addresses it it might seem its a big issue

If Texas demands secession or they will invoke the clause that allows them to forgo the federal government and break up into five additional states the democrats will relent really fast. The thought of 10 more Republican senators running about will keep them up at night and the US Senate will grant succession. The democrats would not risk losing both the House and the Senate to Republicans.

It is the dirty way out but only they can do it.
