What's new

Seven out of eight of Europe’s tallest buildings are now in Russia, Shard is now 4th lol

so stalin was also capitalist who built 7 sisters?
Highrise buildings and skyscrapers doesn't mean capitalism. Remember infamous Tower of Babel? It was hardly capitalist. What I meant was why Russia is emulating Western capitalistic ways it once hated for being essentially corrupt and destructive?

MOSCOW, September 26 (RIA Novosti) - Russia’s Federation Tower East, a skyscraper located in the Moscow International Business Center, colloquially known as Moscow City, has become the tallest building in Europe, rising above two other buildings in Moscow City which previously held the title of Europe’s tallest building: OKO Apartment Tower and Mercury City Tower.

Still under construction, Federation Tower East has reached a height of 343 meters.

“We have reached this height precisely within the scheduled terms, at a pace of three stores a month,” Mikhail Smirnov, the Director General of the “Federation Tower” project said in a press release.

According to Smirnov, the tower is set to be completed and glazed by the end of this year. Next year, it is set to become fully operational.

Federation Tower is a complex featuring two towers built on one podium. Tower East is set to be a 97-storey structure, 373.7 meters in height. Tower West was completed in 2008; it is a 65-storey building which is 242.4 meters in height.

The complex will accommodate offices, hotel suites and apartments.

Currently, the 61st floor of Tower West houses the highest restaurant in Moscow.

The building is actively used as a sightseeing platform and the high-rise has been used by extreme sports lovers (base jumpers, climbers, etc.).

Before Federation Tower East rose above its neighbors, the tallest building in Europe was the nearby OKO Apartment Tower complex, which is 351.8 meters in height.

In 2012, Europe’s tallest building was Mercury City Tower, another Moscow City office building which topped out at 339 meters, overtaking The Shard, a 87-story skyscraper in London which is 309.6 meters in height.

In addition to Federation Tower East, the OKO Apartment Tower, and Mercury City Tower, Moscow City is home to four other buildings that are among the tallest in Europe: the Eurasia tower, City of Capitals: Moscow Tower, Naberezhnaya Tower C, and Triumph Palace. Together, they represent seven out of eight of Europe’s tallest buildings, along with London’s Shard.

Good for Russia ! Russian people are hard workers, innovative. Plus, they have a lot of billionaires. lol.

Cool thread, post more pictures.

One request , @senheiser , let's calm it down on the anti-nation propaganda , okay? Spasebo. Davai Davai.

wrong federation tower the architect is russian, Sergey Tschoban. Its developed by Protok russian company
I made a mistake. I was copying the names off the CTBUH database, and accidentally left off nps+partner under architect. Nps is the German design firm that Tschoban works for. Federation Tower was jointly designed by Tschoban and Peter Schweger.

Impressive skyline, which is, unlike Istanbul, does not seem to compromise the city's recreational and historical sites. That's how Istanbul looks from one angle (probably the most famous angle where that tiny tower is in the center).

Russia and China will ink more than 30 agreements on energy, finance and high-speed rail cooperation during the annual Russia-China Prime Ministers summit to be held on 13 October, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Saturday.

The two states’ premiers will also hold a meeting at the international forum Open Innovations on 14 October, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei in Beijing. Russia has been attempting to shrug off its dependence on European energy markets and instead adopt a “look-east” policy towards China and India.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Vice Premier Wang Yang will head for Russia for the 19th annual meet to hold talks with their Russian counterparts Dmitry Medvedev and Dmitry Rogozin.

The Prime Ministers summit this year follows successful meetings between President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin where the two leaders have overseen enormous Sino-Russian joint ventures, including a landmark $400 billion gas deal in Shanghai after a decade-long gas supply talks between the two countries.

Russia also plans to sign a new 30-year gas supply contract with China via the western route, Russian energy giant Gazprom’s CEO Alexei Miller told President Vladimir Putin last month.

As the US and EU step up pressure on Moscow with a new round of sanctions, Russia is seeking to strengthen ties with allies in the region, predominantly China.

Putin and Xi also met last month during a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meet in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, where Putin batted for aligning China’s Silk Route revival project with Russian plans for a trans-Siberian railway.

“We see great potential in the idea of developing a common SCO transport system that would make use too of Russia’s Trans-Siberian Railway and Baikal-Amur Mainline and be tied into China’s plans for developing the Silk Road route. I am sure that big projects of this kind serve the interests of our organisation’s members and would benefit all countries in Eurasia,” said Putin.

Putin said earlier this year that the Sino-Russian ties, including those on approaches to international problems, are at an unprecedented level.

“As for our relations with China’s People’s Republic, they develop successfully and are at an unprecedentedly high level – both at the level of trust and the level of cooperation. I mean also the political sphere, our common approaches to estimations of international situations and to security in the world,” he said during a Q&A session in April in Moscow.

Russia’s trade turnover with China is almost thrice as big as that with the US.

“It is absolutely clear that we will be expanding collaboration with China. Our trade with the United States is 27.5 [billion], but trade with China is 87 billion, and it is growing. And experts will agree that China is gradually becoming the number one economic power. The question is when it will happen: in 15, 20 or 25 years. But everybody understands that it is inevitable,”asserted Putin.

The Russian and Chinese central banks have recently agreed on a draft currency swap agreement, which will allow them to increase trade in domestic currencies and cut the dependence on the US dollar in bilateral payments.

A Bloomberg report says the yuan-ruble trade on the Moscow Exchange has jumped 10-fold this year to $749 million in August.

Earlier last month, Moscow and Beijing have entered into a pact to boost use of the rouble and yuan for trade transactions.

The Chinese Premier will also visit Germany, Italy and the UN Food and Agricultural Organization(FAO) headquarters in Rome during his Europe trip and attend the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit in Milan from Oct. 16 to 17.

america this america that, what resources are all your skyscrapers made off? Its from siberia ohh great all your skycrapers are russian lol. Idiotic logic you have. It doesnt matter who built it it matters where they stand now. Hence your freedom statute was made by french

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frédéric_Auguste_Bartholdi

If a country prospers and you can see it on the projects, do people will emigrate and start moving to these countries. Americans engineering skycrapers in other countries is not a sign of strength but of weakness as you country has no opportunity to them anymore. Soon all your great bearues will move out to china and asia.
I'd say there's a fundamental difference between those two things. The Statue of Liberty was built by the French as a gift because they were impressed by the United States. The towers of Russia are built by Westerners because Russian businessmen want buildings and hardly anyone in Russia has the knowledge or technology to build them. I don't know the logic behind Europeans not building more skyscrapers, but I'm pretty Americans don't build as many because they don't need to. The Empire State building is taller than Federation Tower Vostok will be on completion, and it was finished over 80 years ago. And unlike the 10 year construction period of Federation Tower, that one took less than a year and a half to finish.

Europe , already has enough skyscrapers
and just like Shard proved there are no more need for them
they are crazy expensive and thus shard remains mostly empty

and that is in Europe , imagine how empty these towers will be in Russia

it took so long to finish because the original company went bankrupt and moved ownership one to another. So you have older and higher buildings than russia? cool story bro but cuz what so is the empire state building higher than all other european buildings. Thats what you dont get, russia is a european city unlike new world countries like america. In europe people get fed up if older buildings get destroyed for newer ones or if they get overshadowed by skycrapers. Thats why you see these russian skycrapers all concentrated in one single place.

and soon if lakhta center is completed this tower would be second largest building in the US if it would be built in america.

And despite we being a european nation, much poorer than america and 25 years after the collapse of the ussr we are able to reach such achievements. What you think russia will look like in 2050? or China?

Moscow's real estate isn't cheap, so the high rise buildings are needed.

When a city with a major financial district, its housing price cannot be cheap.

All Russia's skycrapers concentrated in the major cities will make those cities look more modernized and futuristic, so most people should embrace this plan.

Such buildings have zero acceptance in europe im general. Take germany for example. Most cities dont allow it and ban it. People hate it and start mass demonstrations if sich things are planned. Beside that, there is no need for this. In italy its even more so. Take rome for example, there are laws in place that ban the construction of such things, simply because they destroy the soul of the city.

Since the general public is titally against such buidings, its impossible to build them, people vote against it.

Because you guys are outdated.

A country needs the diversified skyline, not just with the farming land.

No, a country needs nature, art and character. And i promise you that Rome alone attracts more international tourists per year than entire china combined. Where in rome would you want to place such an ugly glass brick? And what for? Tell me, why rome would need a skyscraper, where should it be build and why and what advantages does the roman citizen have from it? How do you plan to build it that no ancient buildings are damaged or influenced and how do you plan to build it without damaging romes worled heritage status? Also how do you plan to win the majority of votes of the roman citizens for this project?

P.s.: All support for the brave people in Hongkong.

You Paleo-Europeans can keep embracing the stone age if you want, whereas the Neo-Europeans (Russians) will embrace the futuristic cities.
