NAGPUR: Seven Maoists, including two women, have been gunned down in an encounter on Monday night in a forested region near Bedkathi village in Korchi taluka of north Gadchiroli in Maharashtra.

Firearms including AK 47, two SLRs, one carbine and other weapons have been recovered in the biggest success of the security forces in the region so far.

In a combined operation of Gadchiroli and Gondia district police, along with CRPF, the rebels were cornered in a lop-sided exchange of fire inside the forest where the Naxals had halted for night rest.

Inspector general of police, Nagpur range, Ravindra Kadam stated that the Maoists belonged to Kurkheda-Khobramenda-Korchi dalam and platoon 56. "The platoon 56 commander Umesh has been gunned down during the exchange of fire along with section commander Punni," he said.

Bodies of the slain Maoists were rushed to Korchi PHC but later shifted to Gadchiroli headquarters.

This operation led by Gadchiroli police comes after Govindgaon, Bhatpar and Sindesur encounters in which some 23 Maoists were killed last year.

Seems the police have finally woken up from their deep slumber....They must maintain the offensive spirit and not let these morons rest or regroup.

As the saying goes, offense is the best defense. :sniper:
