We need to understand that Pakistan has historically pursued a policy of "strategic depth" in Afghanistan, supporting their Pashtun allies in the country to guard against India or Iran encircling Pakistan on its western border. During the 1990s, the ISI built up the Taliban in support of this strategic policy. After 9/11, 2001, India and Iran have expanded their own influence in Afghanistan.

India has five cosulates along Pakistan Afghanistan border. What for? Obviously to cause trouble for Pakistan. Indians have gone to the extent of supplying training and arms to Baitullah Mehsud, the sworn enemy of the United States and Pakistan. Pakistan intelligence have evidence that there are Indian sponsored Terrorism and Terror Training camps in FATA & Baluchistan on the Pakistan Afghanistan Border and that Karzai is in league with India.

Knowledgable U.S. officials say they are concerned that the growing roles of Pakistan's rivals India and Iran are feeding the ISI's desire to support the Taliban and other insurgent groups to counter India and Iran to protect Pakistans interests.

These officials say a better U.S. policy would have been to limit India's high-profile activities inside Afghanistan. These officials also say that Washington need to understand the ground reallities and play a more active role in mediation between Pakistan and India to stabilize Afghanistan and the broader South Asian region.

Supporting India and ignoring Pakistan is not in our interst. If we are so enamoured with India that we are giving India nuclear technology the least we can do in our own interest is to treat Pakistan at the same level as India.

Pakistan cannot forget Clinton spending five days in India and showering all the riches on India and then coming to Pakistan for few hours and waving his finger at the Pakistani nation during his television address in the same manner as he did when he was in trouble regarding Monica Lewinsky. (I did not have sex with that women).

President Bush was no better when he promised India Nuclear technology and refused same request from his ally President Musharaf of Pakistan. Musharaf was so shocked, depressed and lost that during Bush-Musharaf press conference, Bush had to almost awaken him (Musharaf) to say something to the press. This sort of treatment and behavior with Pakistan is not going to work and win loyalty from Pakistan in quelling the insurgency in Afghanistan.

India has been loyal to Soviet Union during the cold war and has worked against our interests. We need to understand the Hindu mind set, India will never be our freind. The help we are giving it to develop nuclear weapons will one day come to haunt us.
