LANDIKOTAL: Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi has asked Pakistan and Afghanistan not to impose a ban on the FATA tribesmen from freely crossing the Torkham border. Taj Muhammad Afridi was talking to reporters on Saturday and requested the Afghan and Pakistani governments to keep watch on the international conspiracies which could affect bilateral relations among the two Muslim nations.

The Senator said in the name of "border management", tribals on both sides of the border were being prevented from crossing the Torkham border without travel documents. He suggested Rahdari cards as alternatives for visas during a border crossing. He said thousands of Pakistanis run their import and export businesses on the Afghan side of the Torkham border.

"Restricting Torkham border is directly depriving thousands of FATA people from their trade activities with Afghanistan and central Asian countries," said Senator Taj. He said it was a tough task for the Pakistani government to send back four million Afghan refugees.

Taj said a large number of Afghan merchants have invested billion of rupees in Pakistan and run various types of small and big import and export businesses in Peshawar and other cities of Pakistan.

However, Taj urged Afghans to start winding up their businesses and sell their houses so that could ultimately go back to their country. After the repatriation of Afghan refugees, Taj Muhammad said Peshawar would face shortage of labourers and small business activities.

Means terrorists take advantage from this free movement across the border, its not time of peace, both sides dealing with terrorism, and they come and go easily as it pleases the terrorists, so better have some check and balance, monitor the border well, no one is stopping movement , its monitoring.

We didn't sign the agreement in 1905 & we are not bound to follow the agreement...

We are not living in 1905. Current Pak Afghan border is an internationally accepted border hence Pakistan can do whatever it wants for national security.

We are no longer living in 1903, things have changed a lot since early nineties. Border management is the need of the hour and we will build it. Yes local tribes can be compensated by bringing in new movement mechanism but Pakistani will no longer allow it's border to be infiltrated easily by hostile individuals.

Agreement is restricted to people living with in 5 miles in either side of border. But we all know Afghans move all the way to Karachi once crossing border. So basically this agreement is kind of useless for average afghan.

I know it is. Israel is also recognized internationally but Pakistan doesn't recognise Israel. My points is, you can't pick and choose when to accept internationally accepted borders when it suits you but Pakistan and Afghanistan must work together to resolve their issues.
