Before we need to make change we need to check what sort of task we are up against, for that we need to assess the line losses in Lahore built up after Sharif's 30 year rule. most probably 15% +-. but they do add LL in bill so they do recover these from consumers. FSD , MEPCO are not even in losses because of high recovery.

& what pace??? that is the problem in 2010 330 was confirm sites and 248 raw sites (Feasibility study pending)
We are not talking about mega dams? these projects are very cheap to initiate dozens at a time can be initiated and add private sector and you can construct !/4 or half at a same time & each project is very small step but in total can generate power more then any Mega Dam in Pakistan.

I tried to clarify that work has been done albeit at slow pace.
I have written a long post regarding upgradation of the canal system and this hydro power generation can be included in that. Canal system of Pakistan is worth multibillion dollar (maybe around $100bn). The farmer doesn't pay much for the water provided by these canals (there is a small token; may a few hundred rupees per farmer per annum). I don't think government is willing to invest in such projects at large. Some work has been done which I can point to but at a slow pace. Awareness is the key here. Now the populace is running around asking to build dams and setting up dam funds etc.
These projects are for the greater good of future generations (so show me how much we have done providing a better Pakistan to our future generation?). Similarly populace have to pay their dues for electricity and taxes otherwise government doesn't have a money tree which can be used to pay for the utilities provided to consumers.

Agreed. My question was to use full capacity of Canals/River/Barrage for power Generation.
In response Your reply is that its going on and posted 2010 News Link.
Now problem is although you are right but project is dead slow. These project will take few months to 1~2 year time that too with small team & required only negligible amount of funds compared to dams.

These are only power generation solution & DAM is also must because it will solve water issue.

If we don't start dams now we are dead.
Run of River/Canal is also must if industry/economy is important.
otherwise do what previous govt did and placed these project in back burner.
