Sectarian violence in Egypt kills Christians

So,you think in a country where you can fool people and buy votes its good to have democrasy?
There's always been that risk, even going back to the ancient Romans and Greeks. When people asked Benjamin Franklin after the 1787 Constitutional Convention what kind of government America now had he responded, "A republic, if you can keep it.".

Look at the arab spring, what did it bring, democrasy people better of now?
I don't confuse mere ballots with democracy. I told the Egyptian reformers six years ago that they'd have to concentrate on promoting democratic values to "win"; otherwise, the risk of creating another Khomeini or Nasser after Mubarak would be too great. Nor is the Arab Spring story yet over.

by the way el-Nour are still a minority in Egypt....most Egyptians I've met are moderates. They may pray 5 times a day and avoid alcohol or other "ills" but they aren't cursing others who don't adhere to their beliefs.

even the Muslim Brotherhood has ideological differences with these people over the new Constitution and other issues like economic policy, tourism policy, human rights/legal policy etc.

so these people who are anti Coptic are also anti Egypt. Copts and Muslims have lived side by side for centuries. Despite some bad acts, they should remain brothers and sisters for the sake of a strong and united Egypt (something some world/regional powers seem to be bothered by)

Turks are only One if it comes to defending the country, then all other issues are secondary.

The problem with that, as the Mavi Marmara case showed, is that it leaves you highly vulnerable to manipulation by your leaders - even when you KNOW it's happening, you accept and promote it in the name of unity. That's a road to tyranny right there.

There you are wrong, manipulation(you said it)happens only if people dont know the reasons of events happening and cant think for themselfs.
We all know the Flottila events were not just the Israelis fault, with WE i mean those who use their brain instead of beeing sheep.
You see,you prooved me right with your example.

The same happend to christians in Iraq(most fled or got killed for just beeing christian).
There are many here in the Netherlands(heard many of the lifestories after Saddam).
Tell me isnt it better to have a strong man(hopefully a good one with some democratic values)) leading such a country then those leading it now?

And you can back that up with a link showing you and other countrymen of yours thought this way BEFORE Erdogan accepted Netanyahu's apology?

same in Pakistan actually, we can relate to that

we bicker amongst ourselves because of domestic political issues and political or occasional ideological differences but when war is thrust upon us by enemy -- the flags wave in the street while the air force interceptors fly above in the skies and the national songs are played on tv while even vegetable sellers in the street who have nothing more than a few rupees of cash in pocket profess they will die defending their country

Ataturk to his infantry men @ battle of the Gallipoli followed the same type of values and ethos as someone radically different - a fidayeen type fighter sent on a mission of jehad.

"Men, I am not ordering you to attack. I am ordering you to die."

Iraq has always had a bloody history; and a history of coups, counter-coups and revolts.

almost sad that it's only dictators who could maintain the national discipline and ward off spies or separatist elements.

a part of me says the same about Pakistan - which always was better off economically when under the rule of Generals.

however times are changing; we should allow our national institutions to grow. One man rule has more advantages than disadvantages - except in the long-run

and we need to start thinking long-run.....instead of this bumbling through life one mistake and one blunder after the other

But this one man could lead the way with strickt rules.
Then slowly bring democrasy after educating the population.
I wish for Pakistan to have a strong leader who could do this.
Its the only way Pakistan would get out of this mess.
This leader could reform alot and force a financial boost by those who can help your economy.

Sure you don't want to wait a bit? Scuttlebutt in D.C. is that Erdogan is backtracking, demanding that Israel allow shipments of heavy weapons to Gaza: link Presumably he's also resumed his attitude that it's illegal for Jews to defend themselves from deadly attacks - they must die instead and their attackers must be hailed as heroes. From there he can accuse anybody of being or supporting Jews or Israel and can do anything he wants to them, regardless of law and fact - for Turks have already accepted bending laws and facts in the name of "defending" their countrymen from "criminal Zionists."

Western democracy.... all they achieved is destruction and death... death to that "freedom'

Syrian you know it is nothing about Western. How it could be about some stupid people attacking Christians in Egypt ???

It is very bad for a country to blame other instead of looking what is wrong inside.
Egypt should really work on the education of its people.

Anyway Morsi said well. rip to the victims.
